What did you do in the garden today?

G’morning folks. We got 3/4” of rain from the storm that rolled through. Grandson said there was lots of lightning but couldn’t hear much thunder so the heavy stuff skipped us. Fine by me, no need to scare the babies. Everything looked much happier out there; rain revitalizes so much better than hose water. It’s dark but I went out and rinsed the wading pools and did waterers, but the water is still warm. There is no such thing as cool tap water here in summer. Temps are bouncing between normal and extreme heat so other than caring for the birds I’m done out there for today.

The loofah vine I said, just let it grow, has engulfed my green house and growing on outside too. Didn’t know they don’t need water.
Snake beans are growing, maturing.
We are averaging 7-9 eggs a day. We have one good hen who will lay in boxes dh made. We put meal worms in them hope others do same!

Does anyone here freeze onions?

I have several that have some rotten/rotting layers, but most of the bulb is good. I want to save what I can, because the onion harvest was less than spectacular.

My plan is to cut off the bad stuff, then chop the rest. I plan to freeze 1/4-1/3 cup amounts on a cookie sheet, then put the blobs in a ziploc bag.

Any other suggestions?

Speaking of loofah... I had one small one gourd that gave up. I have some female blossoms, but it's waaaaay too late for them to do anything now.

For as "early" as most things were this year, the loofahs are not playing along. I was hoping to make some sponges for Christmas gifts. Last year I got one gourd, and it makes a nice body scrubber in the shower.

@Sally PB I froze chopped onion from my harvest this year. I filled gallon Ziploc bags with a layer that was about an inch and a half thick, sucked all the air out, and laid them flat in the freezer. We use a ton of onions so they didn't last long. I didn't pre-freeze on trays because they would have made everything in the fridge smell and taste like onion.

Dehydrate? That's what I did, and put them in a canning jar.

Very good point! I was going to chop some up this morning, but we're going to a funeral this afternoon, and I didn't want my hands to smell like onion.
