What did you do in the garden today?

Hi friends,

a question i wanted to ask for a long time and always forgot:

I bet you all have countless of these multiple-pattern garden-hose nozzles…
Does anybody know what this »soaker« setting is meant to be used for?
I have it on all of my nozzles and all it does is "leaking" water all over the nozzle…
You probably need to lay it down next to a plant or plants that need a slow trickle of water.

Yup, these are gardening hands. 😆 🤣 😂 Sure I have gloves, they're in the house, not on my hands. Good place for them right?

Let's compare pics
Oh yeah, & this is After washing them, that garden soil is embedded!

I bought a pack of gardening gloves from TSC on clearance. They were the vinyl coated gloves that they normally sell in individual pairs but these had some black smudges on the vinyl. There were probably 10-15 pairs in the bundle? I paid $9.99 for the entire pack. Then I stashed them around the place so I'd always have a pair nearby... 😂 Some in the garage, house, gardening shed, barn, shop, etc... After a while, they migrate so I have to occasionally collect them and redistribute.

And yet, I still find myself in the garden at least half the time with no gloves... 😂🙄 I just forget to put some on before I go down there or I go down there with no intentions of getting my hands dirty. We all know how that turns out....

I use the soaker a lot when watering plants in large containers or when filling water dishes. The spray functions tend to get foliage wet which I try to avoid.

It's a low pressure, high volume dribble that doesn't damage the plant foliage or displace soil.

I know your pain. My index finger and thumb is finally recovering from being callused, cracking and being stained with garden soil. My fingers were finally splitting and hurting so I've been using chapstick on the cracks. It's really been helping.

Though I'm starting to twist wires again at work so it'll be back to cracking and dirty soon enough. Can't wear gloves and work with 18awg and ferrules... It would take forever.

In other news, I went to my first PTA meeting. I am not good at talking to other moms. I made a fool of myself a little bit, I'm not surprised but it still hurts a little bit. 🤣🥴

Harvested tomatoes this evening. Going to chop more plants down tomorrow. Time to get ready for more cucumbers and lettuce!

It has been in the high 90s, Thursday it's supposed to cool down to the mid 70s, through the weekend. 🤔 The weather is trying to trick me into planting too early.

My chickens must have had something try to get in coop other night bc he fly at me, and got me cornered. Luckily I keep sticks and rakes nearby! I refused to go back in rest of day and he never did it again. I wonder if something was harassing them?
My second round of cucumbers are starting to produce!

I get a 10 pack for $5 at a flea market at a local fair every August. They didn't have them this year. :( I have one pair left from last year. I'll be looking for them at TSC, Menards, the hardware store, wherever.

Pulled up the older bed of Sweet potatoes.
Much better than I expected 😌 View attachment 3924412
This year was the first time I haven't planted any sweet potatoes, and I'm glad I didn't. It would have been so frustrating to see them wilting away in the drought we have here.
The potato plants died in early July - usually they last a month longer and most of the tubers are just grape size.
I'm glad I don't have to live off my potato patch or I would starve in winter...
