What did you do in the garden today?

I'm like 30+ pages behind. Not going to catch up... Still on our cruise in the southern Caribbean. Bad sunburn but still better than being at work. 😂 DD is complaining that the broodies won't let her collect eggs. They also aren't putting the broodies in the coop at night. (They are in nesting boxes in the goat house...) Hoping a coon or possum doesn't get them. The goats should help deter critters, I hope... :fl It's my both my Marans (one blue, one black) and I don't want to lose them!

Of course the rain started earlier than predicted. I covered the window area with a polycarbonate sheet for now. That will keep them dry for now. It’s been raining since early morning. No downpours, just on and off showers and drizzle. The fall crops are very happy. I’m planning on starting my “porch” garden in the next few days. I think a nice lettuce mix and some pak choi. I’m going to bring the potted tarragon onto the front porch and see if I can keep it alive.

So far today, since I was up at 4:35am, I've gotten quite a bit done!
After the small human went back to sleep I got up, worked out and even got a longer workout in than usual.
Did some work for my job.

Once there was enough light I went outside and put mulch around my squash plants to empty the wheelbarrow of wood mulch.

Then I got busy in the chicken coop and filled the wheelbarrow with their old bedding. Two trips to make a pile next to the compost pile.... Then the chickens decided to spread it all over the place for me. I'm planning to go out there and use the mower to mulch all of the brown materials in a little bit, then rebuild the compost pile to incorporate the chicken bedding. It's too hot to put in the chicken run - it would stink to high heaven this winter if I put it in there.

I pulled out the honeydew and cantaloupe vines to make room for peas. I'll direct sow peas in a few days. Maybe today if I'm feeling ambitious.

I may even have time to plant some of my starts in the garden. I have not up-potted any of them.... so they are looking pretty sad and are pretty root bound.

I will be starting a lot more seeds indoors soon for the fall/winter garden. Lettuces, onions, peas, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, brussel sprouts, more beets, radishes, Cilantro, etc.

I keep leaving this in draft to take care of the small human... Things are changing. Lol

Hmm, scratch all of that. I think I'm getting sick. Poop. I am getting a cough, temp is creeping up, and I have chills. Nooooooo!

Finally raining here! :yesss: Been drizzling all day, not amounting to much but right now it's raining really good. First time in like a month.

Hope everyone down south is doing ok with the hurricane. I haven't watched the news.

Picked some spinach & tomatoes for dinner, along with the salsa I made for some quesadilla. Got lots done today. Don't tell work cuz I called in sick. 😬 Mental health day.
I have 2 chickens separated, I have 3 reds that are feather plucking. :smackI'll try separation for a few weeks till feathers grow back, but maybe peepers are the answer. They just can't figure out my nipple waterers with them on. :rant Stupid birds.
