What did you do in the garden today?

I'm not sure if I really want to try incubating my own but it might come down to I either do it or I just don't get anymore chickens.
If you lived in my state, I'd happily incubate some for you. Have you posted a request in your state BYC forum? That might be a good place to ask for a local breeder

That's why I said I can check with the nursery but I don't know very many people because I would prefer to be at home.
Here is what I've done in the past and did for this year. Not sure if it works where you are. I special order my chicks through the feed store. Then you are guaranteed the amount you ordered. They hold back the special order ones in the bins. I have no idea if that works everywhere, but worth a try if you can't find anyone to hatch some. I use Bomgaars.

The science doesn’t back this up.

Whoever has worms in their flock, get their poop tested and find out what kind of worms they have; wormers don’t work on all types of worms and you may need a different medication. The vet we take our dogs to doesn’t see chickens, but she will send a fecal sample for testing for me. If your flock doesn’t have worms, don’t treat them just because. Please.

my grandma ate pumpkin seeds and pooped out a huge tapeworm. I don't care what scientists say as most of them are corrupted.

I agree we should not treat our flocks if they don't have worms. I sometimes see some poops with round worms, some with tape worms then I combine medications for both and give them.

I posted a thread in the illness category a week ago and got some answers. Vet wasn’t very helpful. We’ve never had worms in them that I recall, and these are tapeworm bits. So, they got tapeworm med marketed to horses. We don’t worm any animals unless a problem exists.

so far, as warm as we've got is -5'F and it's 1pm. BRRRRRR
Brrrr.
3pm and we've warmed to -4F
Still Brrr. …

We can buy eggs at the hatchery up incubate. Might be an option for you. I bought a cheap styrofoam incubator (no turner, no fan) and got decent results. Then I bought a fan kit for it from incubator warehouse, and got better results (still needs hand turning). I also incubated eggs in a homemade incubator using the cheap styrofoam coolers, and also got some pretty good results (no turner, no fan).

Thank you all for the advice and information about my need for chicks and yes I will look into some more areas to see if I can get something put in place. The mechanic that works on the semi truck for my husband said his mom has chickens but when I told him just yesterday (I think), he acted surprised by it. My husband said I think he might want to buy eggs from you. Of course I would but I need more egg makers.

I didn't know that there was a state forum here but I will definitely do my best to find out if it even exists considering I live in California,(home of the awe hell no), state. Seriously I offer to give people any advice, seeds and they look at me like WTF, what kind of psycho are you, no one in this place would ever give away anything to anyone. Yes the state of California is that pathetic. It's almost to the point of being depressing just knowing that the place I live is so danged money hungry that most people want money in return for everything. I gave away so many vegetables and eggs not to mention how much advice I give to people. I didn't ask for money I just had enough from the peace of mind in knowing that I had helped someone else that's what life should be about. I just hope that eventually life gets better for the world.

Anecdotal evidence isn’t enough for me. I tend to trust the educational studies done by universities. Also, I have been keeping chickens a long time and I have never had a fecal float test come back positive for worms :idunno
