What did you do in the garden today?

I posted a thread in the illness category a week ago and got some answers. Vet wasn’t very helpful. We’ve never had worms in them that I recall, and these are tapeworm bits. So, they got tapeworm med marketed to horses. We don’t worm any animals unless a problem exists.

Brrrr.

Still Brrr. …

We can buy eggs at the hatchery up incubate. Might be an option for you. I bought a cheap styrofoam incubator (no turner, no fan) and got decent results. Then I bought a fan kit for it from incubator warehouse, and got better results (still needs hand turning). I also incubated eggs in a homemade incubator using the cheap styrofoam coolers, and also got some pretty good results (no turner, no fan).
I hope it doesn’t seem that I was accusing anyone of anything because that was not my intention.

Do you think this might be in part because of your hot, dry climate? Aren't worms passed from bird to bird through dropping, mostly?
I suppose the dry climate could be a factor, I don’t really know. Chickens can get worms from other birds, but also from little creatures that are carrying them and from the soil. We are in a migration path and get plenty of wild birds in the yard so I still get the fecal test every fall just to be sure.

No worries! Not at all. Over here, we are just trying to figure out how to deal with these tapeworms!! More work to do when ground warms up so we can put in The drain line we’ve discussed for a couple of years. Then, we are planning to get another large load of chipped wood -some will go into the run. All this to get everything drier and hopefully no tapeworm vectors (the vet though earthworms were most likely vector). The earthworms are welcome in the garden though!

I am sure you’ll get it under control but that sounds like a lot of work! I wish we were in a wetter climate, but dry and hot does have its benefits I suppose. Earthworms would probably be deeper underground here where the chickens don’t get to dig.

I didn't know that there was a state forum here but I will definitely do my best to find out if it even exists considering I live in California,(home of the awe hell no), state. Seriously I offer to give people any advice, seeds and they look at me like WTF, what kind of psycho are you, no one in this place would ever give away anything to anyone. Yes the state of California is that pathetic. It's almost to the point of being depressing just knowing that the place I live is so danged money hungry that most people want money in return for everything. I gave away so many vegetables and eggs not to mention how much advice I give to people. I didn't ask for money I just had enough from the peace of mind in knowing that I had helped someone else that's what life should be about. I just hope that eventually life gets better for the world.
I understand... I was born in California. Thankfully my mom moved me to the Midwest as a baby so I didn't really grow up there. However my dad, 2 siblings, and other relatives live(d) there. My 2 siblings and cousins still do... California was an incredible place 30 - 40 years ago or more. Now I wouldn't live there if you paid me. I don't even like visiting anymore. It's just gone so far off the tracks.

Our HIGH today was -1. Sigh. We'll be -20 with a chill of -40 by morning, and next Wednesday 58. LOL.
I swear.
The alpacas can go out, but refuse to.
The hens are being kicked out Saturday, maybe Sunday to go back to the coop.
I cannot wait to get my winter gear into the wash and dry. I'm not a fan of smelling of barn and diesel ALL the time.
