What did you do in the garden today?

You can always dig them all out by the roots. Its a big job, ask me how I know lol
Trust me, I'm trying... The problem is that this (bleep) will root itself anywhere it touches the ground. It spreads by runners which root themselves every few inches. Then it climbs and twists itself around everything it can. Trying to pull it up and it rips all the leaves & bark off but it is SOLIDLY attached to the ground. 🤬🤬🤬

I sprayed it with a gallon of pure vinegar mixed with lemon juice and castile soap. Waiting to see if that does anything.... 👀🤞

Anyone have any suggestions for a good organic weed killer?

I have a crazy, invasive vining plant that keeps trying to invade my garden from the pasture. There's also some privet and wild raspberries over in that area.... I'm trying to kill it all off

BUT....

1. That area of the pasture slopes towards my pond which is about 100 ft away. I don't want to spray anything that will runoff into the pond.

2. I have my thornless blackberries in a bed adjacent to area I need to spray. I'm actually HOPING that the thornless blackberries will expand into that area eventually so I don't want to poison the soil for years....

I'm thinking about spraying some vinegar over there. I've seen suggestions to add salt online but I feel that might damage the soil for the blackberries. I've also seen suggestions to use boiling water but that spot is 200 - 300 ft from the house. Not sure I can safely get boiling water from here to there without hurting myself.

Any other suggestions?
It might take a few years, but if you keep up with regularly chopping away all the above ground growth the roots will eventually die. Leaves make food for the plant, and removing them will kill the plants. In time.

I had a bad infestation of Canada thistle in my garden, a plant that has long, trailing roots. I just chopped down every plant I saw as it came up, and three years later they're gone. Didn't have to dig out any roots.

If it's in one spot chopping it down and covering the area with cardboard, then a layer of woodchips might do the job too.

I read a article about a woman that purchased some strong vinegar from Amazon and it kills quick because of how strong it is but you need a respirator to apply it. It might work.

OK, took a walk to check on the vinegar results. It appears to have worked on the grass and other weeds but not on this d@m n vine. Grrrrrr

Good afternoon all. Our forecast was for thunderstorms but so far we’ve just had a breezy day and it’s getting cloudier as it goes. Who knows? I watered today and decided to leave the row cover on the corn still. There are a few sprouts that are still too small and the birds would trash them I think. A few more onions have come up and there’s a third sunchoke sprout in one of the beds. I can’t remember for certain, but I think I had five roots to start with so that would mean they’ve all come up. One of the cauliflower plants had a couple of curled leaves that sort of disintegrated when I touched them so I yanked the plant the other day. I need to look that up, but so far none of the others are having any issues. The parsley is really looking good and the oregano is starting to put on new growth. The chaste trees are starting to green up too. I had indoor things to finish up, I’ve been running my dehydrator and canner almost nonstop for a couple of weeks and my kitchen was a disaster. That’s cleaned up and I don’t have to cook tomorrow so the yard work will finally get done.

It would be helpful to know the identity of the vining weed. I did a Google image search and had no luck.

I pulled two buckets of weeds. The soil in the sandy garden is thawed, so I went down one side of one of the raised beds on my hands and knees. I call that HANK weeding. For Hands an' Knees.

I also pulled up a bunch of weeds from the area where I planted early spring bulbs for the honey bees. And there are flowers there!
