What did you do in the garden today?

Okay... Here's some better pictures of the mystery vine.

This is the closest thing to a "flower" on this thing. It has these little leaf clusters every 4-6" or so.

This is how the vine looks when it emerges from the undergrowth and has full sunlight.

This is the vine wrapping itself rather tightly around the fence. It is pretty common to see multiple vines or shoots wrapped tightly together on anything it can use (the fence in this case) to climb vertically

After much digging and yanking, I managed to pry up ONE spot where it was rooted in the ground. I cannot overstate how dang near IMPOSSIBLE it is to pull this out by hand.

I have that in my yard. I don’t know what it’s called but I call it P.I.T.A!! :lau

I went to my local Job Lot store to get some 21st century rakes. DD is bringing the grandkids over this weekend to help with Spring yard clean up. I found some fingerling seed potatoes. The price was really good. I bought a bag of fingerlings at a grocery store and I’m going to compare how both grow. I set up my seed starting table the other day and finally found all my seed starter trays this afternoon. The apple trees are pruned and I put stove ash on the big tree. I still need to prune the peach tree and put down ashes. But nearly all the ice in my yard is gone except the old hens chicken yard which doesn’t get as much sun. I finally let them out of their run today so they could forage. Next week I’ll be starting seeds indoor and get the strawberry grow bags set up outside.

Holy smokes, it's hot out there... 🥵 I planted more seed potatoes, treated for fire ants in several beds, planted some romaine, and weeded the garlic beds. Now I'm pooped and drenched in sweat.

Picked up some 30% horticulture vinegar to kill that pesky vine. I saw some organic weed killer but they wanted $30-$40, depending on brand, for not very much... The vinegar was half the cost for a full gallon.

Went to the feed store today. Saw chicks were already sold out. The breeds I want are/were supposed to come in on 4/2 but apparently the hatchery has already said there will be no Black Copper Marans which is mostly what I wanted so I'm not even going to bother fighting the crowd. I'll just hatch my own eggs.

I think I'm going to hatch chicks for sale too... Both the feed store and TSC said they had a LINE of people waiting to buy chicks before they even opened. Then the first 2 people bought ALL of them. The lady at the feed store said it almost caused a fist fight with other people who wanted to buy some too.... Like crazy. They are also charging $7-$9 PER CHICK (minimum purchase of 6).😱 I'll charge $4/chick for straight run. That's insane...
Maybe I'll sit in the parking lot with my chicks when they hatch...

Went into the city today and got my laptop straightened out. I can now import photos again. Did some fact checking today and Preen is still labeled for some vegetables. Packaging is different and only shows flowers on the front. I peeled the back to read the information that used to be on the back. Vegetables are still listed. I have not used or bought Preen in years.

Is this the type of rake you've been using? LOL

My tomato cuttings have survived the transplant from water to the Dutch bucket perlite set up outside and I am still waiting for my potatoes to spout in my other two experiments.

I finally got to taste my Red Coral grape tomatoes. Although it is advertised as thin skin, the flesh is thick and firm like regular grape tomatoes from the supermarket. However, it tastes way better and are much sweeter. It's a keeper.

The garden is really doing great.

:tongue Just getting to the point where all the snow is melted off my raised beds. Unfortunately, we have snow in the forecast this weekend. Will be starting seeds indoors the end of March for planting the end of May here in zone 3B. Anxious to get the gardens in, but have to wait on the weather.
