What did you do in the garden today?

Glad we are getting the moisture. That's the ONLY good thing about this blizzard! Our winds are already crazy here! It was such a a beautiful day to end it with a blizzard. Weather whiplash!!!
RIDICULOUS! The winds in open country NOW are insane. It's going to be a LONG night, headset on, getting up EARLY to double feed livestock. I have the hail shutters AND the winter windows BOTH up at the same time! LOL.
CRAZY.

How do you top peppers? I have read it on here but I haven't ever seen/ or done it myself.
It's about the same as topping basil. I top mine once they get 4-5 sets of adult leaves. I got carried away and may have topped them a little short, I put them back to 2 sets of leaves... I should have only pinched off one set of leaves. I was distracted.

You pinch them off to just above the previous set of leaves, that way they branch out from those leaf nodes.

Today I set the babies in the sun for longer, more morning sun.

Thank you for letting me know. I've only ever taken dead or dying off.

I cooked a pint of ketchup with my red snapper tomatoes this morning and ended up using 1 TBS vinegar, 2tsp salt, 6tsp sugar, 1/2 tsp cummin, minced garlic and minced onion. I didn't strain the seed and pulp this time and had to add water. Next time I will strain the seed and pulp and add less corn starch slurry. I kept tasting a store-bought bottle of ketchup and ended up using more salt and sugar than my previous post.

my mother had some recipe with raisins. she used sultanina raisins that are very sweet and she used less sugar. it has to be blended at the end.

we had nice watering rain overnight. although it is cold and it will be cold for the next 2 days I like it. nature was not prepared for summer heat and drought. even my poultry look happier this morning. on the other hand my vietnamese piggies and goats don't like cold weather.

yesterday I planted onion sets and waited for rain to water them, lol.

The texture is off with the corn starch. It looks okay when it's hot but when it cools down it looks like Jello. It needs to be heated to bring it back. I will dilute it and use it as a sauce for my swirled omelet.

I shifted the cat trap to just outside the front fence.

Cumin got a whiff of the sardines in the trap and was trying to burst through the fence for a taste of them! She kept hopping back and forth, poking her head through the fence like a hungry dog! The other chooks scurried around too.

I ended up taking a bit of sardine out of the trap - Cumin poked her head through the fence wire and snatched the sardine from my hand, then ran off with it down the yard with the other chooks chasing her like she had just found a mouse to eat!

(For some history, Cumin is the Queen of catching mice in my flock!)
