What did you do in the garden today?

Busy day today... I got my indeterminate tomatoes in the ground. Cantaloupe, spaghetti squash, and peppers too. Also went ahead and put my itty bitty broccoli and cauliflower starts in the ground too.

Tomorrow is going to be hot (mid-80's) but I still have a lot left to do. Need to get my hugelkultur bed set up for the pumpkins, melons, and cushaw squash. Also need to plant green beans and cukes. We are supposed to get rain on Saturday and Sunday so I'm trying to get it all in before then...

Including planting the 2 new pawpaw seedlings. They are about 15" tall right now. I'm thinking about putting them in the north pasture to keep them safe from the goats. Decided to set them in place for a day or two so I can observe how (if any) much sun they get. Pawpaws are supposed to be shaded for 2 years and then have access to full sun which they need to set fruit. It's stressing me out try to find the best spot to meet that unique requirement. 😬

Native pawpaw trees here are understory, thin and bendy. They grow taller to access the sun. So, you might be ok to plant where it will grow tall enough to access the sun in a few years.

Yeah, that's the hard part. My property has quite a few big, giant old oak and gum trees. There's lots of shade... So it's a challenge to find a spot that's shaded on the ground but will be in sun at 15-20 feet above the ground. I also need to consider that some areas may be partially shaded now but will be full shade in a month or two... Or be in more sunlight as the sun shifts higher overhead in the summer. Just all the variables I'm trying to keep in mind.

Planted 15 pepper plants today! Still have 20 to go. I need to get my last garden bed ready. It's been serving as my hoop house for seedlings. I may take it down tomorrow. Then I can plant 10 of those.

I'm an insane person and I bought 70 bare root strawberry plants. Going to plant them everywhere... Everywhere there's mulch. Maybe even out front. I bought them for DS since all of the ones from home Depot had crown rot. Not one lived. Now it's time to go buck wild!

With those, comes 5 more blackberry plants for me. Also insanity. Why. Why do I do these things. 😂🥴

They will probably all arrive next week. Time to cut some of my wine barrels in half.

Home Depot will replace the plants. You need the plants and the receipt.

They were the bagged bare root ones. Bags they came in are gone and I turned what was left of the plant scraps down into the garden beds. I paid for nitrogen essentially. It's ok. I learned my lesson. I actually already knew better .... But DS got excited because I was buying the seed potatoes in bags right next to the strawberries. I caved because I feel like I get to pick all the plants. I wanted him to feel included. So it's worth it. He loves growing strawberries.

We are a similar odd couple. I do all of the outdoor chores, use the big 6800 Kubota, build most of the projects, use the chainsaws, split the wood, repair most of the things and, well, I do most of the domestic chores as well.

My DH isn't as bad as yours though. Mine can use the chainsaw and kinda fix things. He has rebuilt two of the hydraulic cylinders on the tractor loader and is about to do a third. But, his allergies prevent him from being very useful outdoors this time of year. He's also a cheap ah... I mean... he's frugal. Yet somehow he has more clothes than me, more shoes, and about 100 jackets. I exaggerate there but dude he has too many jackets.

He cuts his own hair, and mine. I finish his hair cuts on the back and around his ears. I cut my bangs. He cuts DS hair. He does most of the oil changes. He's a great cook. He works really hard and is one of the most logical and kind people I've ever met. Also one of the most honest.

I do most of what I do because I enjoy it all. Keeps me in shape and I like to stay busy. I have no problem doing any chore that needs to be done. Including emptying the poo tank on the camper. Though it's 40' of stinky slinkies to get to the sewer access. 😂 Kind of a pain in the butt.
Hubby doesn’t like „green“ , so if you want him to be in a bad mood, just tell him he has to do something in the garden, he is what I call a brain person, everything practical evades him 🤪 but… he is very honest ( especially about what he doesn’t like 😅)

IN YOUR CAR??? View attachment 4099630

I'd have a stroke.... I absolutely positively HATE mice and rats, but especially mice. When DH and I were first married, we lived in an old trailer next to his grandparents. It was infested with mice... In the walls, cabinets, everywhere. View attachment 4099637 I have such a ridiculous aversion to them now that I can easily go overboard when it comes to getting rid of them. Thankfully I have not had to deal with mice in my house in a very, very long time. Occasionally they get in my garage and it's amazing there are walls still standing by the time I'm through.... 😂

my 2 house cats make sure there are no mice in the house.
