What did you do in the garden today?

Does anyone have a hoop greenhouse and can tell me how long the plastic has lasted over it? Dh thinks we should put up a hoop greenhouse but not sure if it would be worth it if the plastic will only last a year.
I called a greenhouse supply comp. and they told me there is a chemical in the pvc that will deteriorate the plastic so it won't last very long.

I have a hoop green house. I buy a roll of 4 mil. clear construction poly that is 10' x 100'. Yes, the plastic will last about a year, then it needs to be replaced. I can get 5 replacements for my 8 x 8 green house which works out to about $10/year. It's not terribly time consuming to replace the plastic. You can get about 4 years out of green house poly, so that may be more economical.

Today I am making newspaper seed cups. I have found them to be one of the best upcycled options for seed cups I have experimented with. A friend gave me a bunch last year. They wick water like peat pots and are fairly resilient, but unlike peat pots which have trouble breaking down, they actually do break down fast enough that when you go to plant you can just soak the seed cup and poke at it a little to let the roots out. I find toilet paper roll cups are too small and mold, but these don't. They're also free and I'm finding them fairly easy to make as well.

This is a video of how to make 'em.

I am going to build mine out of glass, i dislike plastic. Looking for lots of storm windows.

I did something! It was gorgeous and sunny here this weekend and in the high 50s or so, so I was outside all weekend. And I cleaned out my shed! It's actually a really nice big building when all the crap isn't strewn everywhere. Feeling accomplished over here. :) It's got power and a window and shelving. I think I may move some of my potting up and transplanting out there. Probably not the seed starting because of the temp fluctuations we've been having.

I also winnowed down my seed list. I'm trying to be disciplined. It's hard.

I hope penny and mouse are on the mend!
You can come tidy up my garden shed if you are bored!
