What did you do in the garden today?

I planted a fall crop today...
2 kinds of broccoli, romaine & red leaf lettuce, peas, green beans, carrots, turnips, radish, beets, swiss chard Brussels sprouts, and some left over toms and eggplant starts (who knows! Lol) have jalapenos, habaneros and banana peppers going too.
Hope all goes well, lotta work went into it this time around :)

Picked my last row of peas for the year, preserved 1/2 my sunflower seeds, and picked what I hope will be the last of my grapes for the year. So tired of picking grapes,

I pulled 1/4 of my carrots. They are still tiny, but they obviously aren't getting any better. I also pulled the first of three rows of potatoes. Those came out great. I have a dozen about the size of my fist or bigger. I'm going to sieve out the dirt today and use the smaller ones for soup and the tiny ones for next year's growing.

Started a fall crop, going to clean out the garden area in a bit (its gotten away from me the last few weeks since hubby/kids/myself have all been sick! LOL) Going to toss some pumpkin seeds in too, see how they do. :)

Harvested *a* sweet pepper lol.

But the fresh seeded gardens are SPROUTING! Yay! I'm so excited lol doh. Seedlings excite me in the fall...rows of broccoli, turnips, beets, spinach, beans, peas, carrots coming up! :) now...I have to keep the bugs away :/

I pulled all carrots and potatoes. I scrapped the melons. I also pulled my marigolds and planted them in the gaps of my perennial beds. After the tomatoes are finished doing their thing, I'll amend the soil and send in the chickens. I really hope next year goes better. Other than potatoes and tomatoes, my garden is pitiful.

I spent a few weeks shading some plants and topping some plants to cause a stretch and bushier effect.

It worked beautifuly on a few plants.
Elephant ears were shaded 2 weeks on 2 weeks off.
Cannas were shaded the same.
Floating water lettuce got huge!
Floating water hyacynth grew tall (lovely effect)

I have a problem with heavy heat waves here. The air so dense and so brutally hot for weks on end these plants were taking a beating and I was always *waiting* for the lushness to return...but it would usually stunt growth. So I shaded some and then returned them and got the nice gardens agains, less waiting, less ugly recovery time. I like it.
So I shared :)
Happy Friday ya'll!

Cleaning out the garden area today, getting ready for a fall crop. Also going to do a bottle herb garden with my kiddos this weekend so I got things set up for that, and got the herb seeds sorted out so I can figure out what's going where :) Boiling hot and humid already, so other gardening things might hust have to wait.
