What did you do in the garden today?

Hosspak: My favorite potato is the Adirondack Red. It has red skin, and pink flesh. I used to grow a potato called All Red, which I believe has now been replaced by the Adirondack R. Unfortunately, I don't have room this year, and can't find them locally. I tried an experiment by planting some fingerling potatoes last fall that had started to sprout in my refrigerator. Potatoes are not supposed to be planted in the fall... but I had them, they were sprouting, and I was planting garlic the same day. So, if they grow, fine... if not, they will just become one with the soil! Any potato that you grow is going to be far better than what you can buy in the store. There's absolutely no comparison!!!! To me, they are the most rewarding and fun vegetable you can grow. Absolutely no maintenance after they are planted... unless you have to deal with potato bugs. The best potatoes I've ever grown have been the ones that I didn't plant. They're the ones that miss getting harvested in the fall, and then sprout in unlikely places the following year. One year, I harvested a lot of huge potatoes from my corn patch. They seemed to thrive with that corn.

I just planted All Red in my garden and it seems to be doing great despite the heat. Looking forward to harvesting them eventually. I got them from my local mom & pop nursery.

cut asparagus and kale for dinner. hunted slugs and snails...

I dug out some ornamental grass that is taking over the front yard boarder. I plan to give most of it away and put just three bunches of it into bottomless pots and replant them. I have a flat of pansies that need planting, It was and impulse buy... Will I ever learn?

started soaking some tree seeds for planting tomorrow.. reserved a few back just in case I need to cold stratify any (no idea if the sellers had already done that step for some or not)... hopefully I don't need to.. but I have plenty of extras just in case

Rained overnight . Picked some asparagus . windy cloudy blustery day. More rain tonight. One report of morel mushrooms in this area.
