What did you do in the garden today?

No bending over! They are lovely!
My back needs some of those!
Amen! That's what they were talking about when they started touting raised beds!!! I planted my rows of carrots, basil and onions and it took me 5 minutes to stand up straight and get rid of that numb feeling in my feet...never even mind the knees....

I have a busy day. I dug out the last of my strawberry starts. As part of my sustainability project I used all the money I made selling them to improve our gardens. We have a 20x50 side yard where we are starting a perennial food garden. So far got five dwarf fruit trees, two new kids of blueberries and some rhubarb. Also some Marion berries, currents, gooseberries and yellow raspberries to make a hedgerow fence.

Though I seldom add anything to the soil that we didn't compost ourselves I purchased a few yards of compost. (Fancy!) and best thing (and very fancy!) I got a few cubic yards of filbert shells from the processor and had them crushed fine for mulch. It looks beautiful and will not acidify the soil like cedar or pine mulch. I still have about 100 bucks left....

Tonight I am going to help put in the irrigation in the food bank garden project I am involved with. We have 10 5x4 beds.

I realize that I'm severely behind on my vegetable gardening.. I haven't planted a THING yet!

Hopefully this weekend I can run the tiller and start planting my potatoes and corn...
But as far as flower gardening is concerned, I'm doing well!! I bought a rose bush yesterday which led me to buying another rose bush today and also a lilac bush that I've been wanting FOREVER. I'm so excited to plant them!! I'm trying to decide the best place to plant the lilac bush, but I already know where I want my rose bushes to go. :)
