What did you do in the garden today?

Amberjem it looks like you have a nice head-start going there! I planted a bunch of starts too and put a few outside since they hit the top of the dome. I did a bit too much yesterday in trying to get my garden spot started so I have to rest today but the thunderstorms are rolling back in so... At least I know I'll have lots of worms (I threw them back in the dirt when I saw them in my hand tiller) for our future flock and some for the garden too.

Tilled up a spot for peas and spinach . Now to buy the seed before the rains start tomorrow night .

Tomatoes are in the ground!! Oh yeah!! Well, at least some of them are. Since we haven't hit last frost date yet, I'm reserving a few in case we get that last bit of bizarre weather Oklahoma is known for. I think I'm pretty good though. My asparagus finally came up as well. Getting ready to harvest my first two spears and use them in a fritatta for supper.

My peach tree has done bloomed without a freeze and now my plum and apple trees as well as my currant bushes are loaded in blooms. If every bloom turned into fruit and matured, we'd be overrun.

Hey everyone, I have a question. In order to clear out room for our garden, we had to remove several oak trees. We're debating on a good spot to burn them, and honestly right in the middle of the garden area looks like the best spot just because it's mostly sandy, we removed all of the brush, and it has no overhanging trees.

Would it harm the soil at all (pfft, who am I kidding. What soil? It's mostly sand like all of Florida.) to burn off the trees in this spot? We aren't going to be putting the plants in the ground for few weeks, but I don't want to damage the soil to the point where we can't grow anything. The spot where we are thinking of burning is mostly going to be melons, two types of watermelon, honeydew, cantelope, and crenshaw, and later pumpkins, both Cinderella and Sugar. I know wood ash is sometimes a good soil additive, I'm just hesitant to burn anything on the spot where we need to plant things in a few weeks.

I've turned old burn sites into gardens before, it worked just fine, no ill effects noticed by me... I Might check the ph after though see if it's changed...

everytime I do a burn everything..weeds... grows like crazy in that spot....I have a spot I throw ashes and I get a lot of edible mushrooms in that one spot

Can someone help me? My blueberry looks like it I rusting... And is it right for asparagus to BUD after 2 weeks from germination?

Did you just plant that asparagus? You're seeing fronds, or the leaves. You want a new planting to send up a lot of that growth. I didn't know that asparagus would grow in the more southern climates. As far as your blueberries, tell me about them. what is your soil pH? When did you plant them? Did you fertilize them? What with? What have your temps been? How long have they been in that spot?
