I am trying the Back to Eden way for one garden, But the chips are thin, not chunky. I expect them to decompose quicker so they won't be there next year. It is difficult to get my husband on board for big wood chips. He thinks I will ruin the garden, but it is all sand. How badly can I ruin it?
The other garden has about six inches of pine straw on it, and the weeds are negligible. It holds in the moisture too, and for sand- that's saying something.
On the video, they were pulling up carrots out of those big chunks of chips weren't they? And they put the seed directly in... they weren't malformed.
I think his fears are root crops having problems.
I have vole,mole,mice- rodent chewing tunneling problems. Do the wood chips make it uncomfortable for the rodents to dig?
I might be able to sway him with that.
I hate to gas them or poison them. I'd rater they just prefer not to be there,
