What did you do in the garden today?

Hog panels and zip ties.... You are my new hero. Your garden is beautiful, i hope our soil looks that good in another year or so.

Going to pick a few tomatoes after church tomorrow. She that must be obeyed, made Ricotta today and Mozzarella thursday. I forsee some homemade Lasagna in the next day or so.

I like how you use the fence panels.
Thank you for the pictures. I am following your garden with a lot of interest.

If the panels do not need to be moved each year, that will be fantastic.
We do have nematode issues down here, so I have to rotate...but, I assume anything could use support, carrots couldn't go there or cabbages, but every thing else could.
I am getting too old to want to till and set up trellises each year. I think this is perfect for me.

It's a little labor intensive to get it set up the first year, but my soils are so crappy~heavy, dense, acidic clay~ that I just had to try this garden method: http://www.backtoedenfilm.com/

Those panels are staying right there...no more rotating crops needed with this method. The fence is to keep my chickens out. This winter those cattle panels will have an arch over them, over which I will be stretching some plastic, so that I can grow some cold weather crops this year. Maybe romaine lettuce, spinach, beets, carrots, kale, etc. I've never really maintained an all year round garden space before, so this will be kind of neat to try growing things in there in the fall and winter months, as well as getting an early start in the spring.

SOmeday I would like to make ricotta and mozzarella toooooo. NOthing like basil, tomato and fresh moszzarella covered with balsamic vinegar.

Anyone who know of me knows this gal won't give up.
Goats may have eaten most of the garden, let them come I planted hot peppers, paprika basil sunflowers and squash
Hoping to have a prize winning basil come out of the garden again this year.

I like the idea of layeering cardboard, but this last year it gave shelter to a vole, and I don't know what to make of that. The soil sure loved all the cardboard. So do I continue with it and other layering, and just kick out the voles or whatever in spring? I'll be trying to learn more about layerings and lasagna and what-not as I go.

Before putting down chips etc, try laying down chicken wire. That's what I'll do for my raised beds. :D
