What did you do in the garden today?

Found a poor selection of blue potatos at Tractor supply....4-5 tiny seed potatos for 5.99 so these will be planted for getting seed potatos for NEXT year.

Bought azamite at WOrms Way yesterday...I choked at the $44 for 44 pounds.... I was expecting something closer to the online prices for another company of $23 for 44lbs, so bought only one bag with my $46 dollar allotment.

Would like to get peas i into my community garden plot but another gardener said late april is too early......: heeee, good thing this fellow didnt hear my conversation with another gardener a few minutes earlier as his peas are already in!! Goes to show the opinions vary widely. lol

That's a hoot. I like to get my peas in the ground here, in Maine, in planting zone 4, by April 15! I planted my peas last week. We're supposed to have frosts every night this week. I also planted lettuce, chard, spinach, onion sets, mache, parsley, radish. Garlic is up 6" (I haven't forgotten!) Other herbs growing nicely,

I spread compost the last couple of days, finished planting out the garden beds, and planted a few things around the outside of the chicken run. It's raining today, so it's errands and housecleaning day!

Part 2: I may try to pick up some annuals today too. I've had terrible luck starting annuals from seed this year. I thought I'd save some money this year and start them from seed, but I've had less than 10% germination rate! And very seeds in the packets!

I have to laugh at myself because I feel SOOO lazy compared to you guys (and ladies). I haven't done much for the past 3 weeks other than watch and wait. Then I remind myself, I did all this work you talk about in January. My next "big" work will be pulling up the plants in July and digging a 4th 8'x4' raised garden.

Where did you buy your flower seed? I bought some of the cheap packets at Walmart, and have had HORRID germination. One of the multi colored bell pepper packs yielded 0%. I plan to take it back. Not because of the $.20, but because of the principle behind it! I had 100% germination from the seed I saved from the red peppers bought (and enjoyed eating them) at Hannaford. I like to find a reliable seed company, and stick with it. I'll buy some other stuff here and there, but only if it's a "gamble". My favorite company that gives a lot of quality product for the $ is Fedco Seeds.

Ufff just planted 5 rose bushes, lupine and foxglove. Still need to wait with my tomatoes,to cold at night. Everything is waiting in my sunroom. Oh and hops too. Waiting in pots in warm sunroom.

I bought seeds from various stores, but the brands were Burpee, Livingston, and Renee's Garden. Some organic seeds, some not. My vegetable seeds did well, but the flowers, herbs, etc. were terrible. Even basil had been a disappointment. I'm going to try sowing outside, instead of indoor starting, and see how that works. I'll look into Fedco too. I assume they have a catalog and/or online store. Thanks!
