What did you do in the garden today?

Wow loving reading about everyones garden, we are in spring and next month, summer in Australia - so interesting to see people preparing for winter!

I have at the moment herbs and flowers in pots and starting to prepare to make some raised pallet beds for our vegie garden. currently planted lime, lemon, finger lime trees as well as some native aussie grevilleas and lemon myrtle. There is already an orange and mandarin tree established - thanks mum. WHoops and also mulberry.

I've planted bell pepper before and never gotten one! I'm liking this! I'm just excited that I might get a few with out all the bugs before they die.

So I was looking at my worm bed and my goodness there are so many egg cocoons!! There must be close 150 egg cocoons in there! That means there could be any where from 150 baby worms or as many as 2100! (But probably closer to 450)

My chicken compost is steaming up the neighborhood. I turned it yesterday because it cooled down some and now it's hot again. When I forked it to another spot the inside of the pile was white from heat loving fungi and bacteria.


This might be the last of the cucumbers. The rains came early and often to the Sacramento Valley and a lot of what's left of my tomatoes cracked and rotted.

The Comfrey I planted last summer is doing well. At first the chickens would barely peck at it but now they love it and go crazy when I throw them a few leaves. Comfrey is super nutritious and gives eggs a deeper color. My dogs will chomp the comfrey to the ground if I'm not watching them.

Good to hear that your birds are liking your comfrey. I planted 10 crown cuttings throughout my orchard and along the road side. Awesome production. Just this week was the first time my birds have shown any interest in it. If they don't eat it, it will simply be used as mulch and a compost amendment. I love the pic of your steaming compost!!!
