What did you do in the garden today?

What's a delicata?
It's like a butternut squash with thin skin. We have all sort of bugs, but yes, tent caterpillars in the pecan tree every year. Last year there were so many of them they started coming in the house and cocooning in whatever fabric they could find. We also get a lot of stinkbugs and earwigs every year. Yup, they all get to share the blame with my black-thumb and stubborn refusal of insecticides.

Wow, that stuff is pretty! I would grow that just to look at it every day.
Yeah, i try not to use pesticides. The beetles are getting the squish treatment. My Dad used to pay me a penny a piece to pick Japanese beetles and throw them in a can with a little gasoline in the bottom, when i was a kid.

Yeah, it is disappointing to have your plants chewed up. My string bean leaves got all chewed up but are still producing beans. My poor tomato plants are wilting but not from lack of water. Never had that happen before. I bought 2 more plants and will mix sand in the dirt where i plant them.

Do tell: what do you "hide in your sauce". I used to make my crock pot sauce that way. Used a blender, buzzed up all the veggies. (zucchini, pepper, onion, carrot) I love my sauces and veggies chunky, :droolbut hubby and kids don't like chunks. :sick

I put in sweet peppers, various squash, carrots, beets, parsnips, turnips, greens/spinach/kale, celeriac, onions, potatoes, green beans, peas, whatever I've got and whatever I think won't hurt that sauce flavor or texture. Whatever veggies I can't poke down their throats otherwise. I like chunks too, but I compromise to keep the peace, and to get my kids their proper doses of good vegetables.

I am so happy for you! Also thrilled i got the keets out of their brooder. Put them all in a mesh laundry bag to cart them up to their new tractor. So they are in their new space too. Gosh, they are getting big. Pictures tomorrow. Kittens getting big, i need to get more canned cat food. Mamma does not let them nurse any more. Hate to sell them but they need new homes. Good night, all gardeners.
