Make sure you plant okra away from anything that needs a lot of sun. It makes a tremendous canopy. Last year ours got so tall (nearly 7ft), we had trouble harvesting, so this year I'm trying a dwarf variety.I really like to grow eggplant, just because it's a pretty plant with beautiful flowers. Don't like the skin either, so I always either peel it or grow ones with very thin skins (Casper, Listada di Gandia). And for me, roasting it is the key--makes a huge difference in texture. Once that's done, it will soak up any kind of sauce/marinade you want. I put the roasted cubes in during the last phase of a thai curry, or bread and flash fry for eggplant parm.
A friend gave me a couple of kohlrabi plants last spring. Cool-looking aliens, but I didn't really know what to do with it. Ate it raw like carrot sticks, and it was kinda blah. Still liked how it looked though.
I'm going to grow a bit of okra this year, first time ever. I'm not a fan, though I found out this winter that picked okra is actually tasty. We'll see.
