What did you do in the garden today?

The flood we had this spring dragged my compost bin about 20 ft away before it tipped over. It's an old horse trough with the bottom busted out from the last flood. We moved it back and scooped as much back in as we could, but that dirt patch is now overflowing with wild tomatoes. At least 20 came up and it's only a 4x4ft patch.

Don't let 'em go to waste, that's a big blessing! If you won't use them, I am sure some neighbors or friends would love to have a tomato plant!

I am growing Abraham Lincoln, Ponderosa Red, and Better Boy Sandwich Tomatoes. I am cloning a lot of them. I am going to grow a big bushy one in a pot and graft some other branches on it so I have fresh tomatoes of all type to bring in for Overwintering and take out early spring :drool I love tomatoes!

I also have some unique hotpeppers growing (I am going to do some grafting and crossbreeding. I will also crossbreed some tomatoes). I am growing Chocolate Habanero, White Habanero, Orange Habanero, Carolina Reaper, Purple Cyan, (Firecracker and Lemon Habanero sadly won't pop up or sprout. I tried the paper towel method and direct sow. No luck. I think the seeds are faulty duds), Nu Mex Twilight, Ghost Pepper, Bell Pepper, and a few more (Can't recall right now and I am at my Grandma's. Enjoying it while they are still here:love:D)

Too late! Lol. I planted corms in that spot and pulled everything else up. Usually the volunteers from seed aren't very good when they come from store bought tomatoes. I still have an extra currant tomato plant and no one is interested anyway. Been trying to help my daughter get a veggie garden in her yard , but her obsessed lesser half can't decide where. Have sweet potatoes, tomato and zucchini to donate.
DH doesn't like sweet potatoes, but he will eat the leaves from them in salads.

I am going to have to try cloning tomatoes. I have never done it, but love a good science experiment, especially when I can get the kids involved!

Good morning gardeners. I hope everyone in tornado alley made it safely through this outbreak of horrible weather. Big shock, the weather in New England is fabulous right now. All the little plants in the gardens are responding nicely to the warm temperatures and a break from rain. A few more of the original pole bean seeds have germinated and are popping through. I mowed the front yard yesterday and finally did some minor pruning non my fruit trees. Sadly, there is no more green on the fig tree "trunk." That's OK, I will be planting flowers in the giant pot. I'm still waiting for my squash plants to get their secondary leaves so they can go outside. I'm a little jealous of those of you who are enjoying homegrown, vine ripened tomatoes. Have a great day all!
