I have a big aloe we bought when it was smaller looks nothing like that

It's a hybrid Penny. I have tons of aloe in my yard, they don't look like this one either.

How low did the temperature get? It doesn't have to be freezing on the ground for snow to fall. Sometimes a little snow can be an insulator. I did notice your snowy weather when I was watching the news. Sorry, but your garden may surprise you.

We hit just below freezing. Right now we are 33°F. I am hoping we don't lose to much.

Good morning gardeners

Not much happening in my garden today. We processed all the quail this past weekend so the enclosed garden is easier to work in. We lost a few flock members over the weekend so I have major coop work to do this week in the big house. That work begins today after I'm done at the salt mine.

It has been windy here, today won't be any different. Temps will be in the low 80s today but low 70s tomorrow. I'm not complaining. This is the valley of the sun and the Solstice is only a month away so I'm rather enjoying a real Spring for a change.

So far the lantana seem to be doing ok, I hope they'll fill out this summer while the chicks are still small and not particularly adventurous. My older birds didn't care to eat them, but given a chance they'd dig them up.

I continue my battle with pigeons. My routine now is to check the roof and shoot them with the hose. If they fly back over the yard they get another shot

Hubs will be cutting the lattice in half for me this weekend so I'll be able to get those planters going and set up for fall planting. Despite our beautiful weather, I suspect we'll eventually get summer temps this year.

How do you clone tomatoes?



You have special chickens. Mine dig up planted seeds and plants looking for goodies in the dirt. Step on and break any and all seedlings that sprout, and break or knock over taller plants in their desire to do the nasty right in front of me.

Chicken wire works, but is such a pain to use. Most of the good stuff this year is in pots raised up with no room for them to land, and if there's a perchable rim, I put sticks inside all the way around sticking up to keep them out. They also find petunia blossoms rather tasty.

To clone tomatoes, cut a branch off, preferably around 4 inches long or longer, stick it in a pot and some dirt, water it thoroughly, wait about a week or two. I always joke (But am completely serious) that if tomatoes didn't die from cold weather, since they duplicate, sprout, and root so easily, they would be a weed. Everyone would be pulling them out of their yards and trying to keep them under control. We didn't get the snow, but our wind is pinging at 49 mph and the rain. rain rain rain. ENOUGH OF THE RAIN! We'll barely make 50 again. All the starter cells are STILL in the garage. Everything is going out tomorrow morning. PERIOD< END OF SENTENCE< AND THAT"S FINAL!

Good morning/evening gardeners! Slept in today by mistake. Today is a warm sunny day where I live (Eastern North Carolina). It was a beautiful day gardening! Planted my Ghost Pepper, Purple Cyan, planted my Beans (lot's of random ones), a couple other peppers, and put my basil plants in a special garden area. Wonderful and glorious day today. Praising God for beautiful weather after all the rain we've had!

First tomatoes just came off the plant, one is already matked for our salad tonight I don't like store tomatoes so it's been a while.

Store ones do not have flavor as home grown still waiting on ours

Store tomatoes don't have the flavor because they are usually grown with hydroponics, meaning they don't get as good nutrients as plants in the ground. Remember, quantity over quality is their mindset; and us here on BYC go for quality with our quantity.
