What did you do in the garden today?

There are folks posting about the gnats they are loosing birds to them so bad in areas
even when I consider moving end up in Belgian other states have awful parts I do not want to deal with guess I also think in the end I still want to be outside play in the dirt

I read about that, but had no idea gnats could kill chickens. We have SO MANY gnats here. I can't stand to be outside somendays. My kids and I were trying to move rocks from around the house, and gave up, because the gnats were swarming and if we didn't have a hand free to swat at them, they would end up in our eyes, nose and mouth. I have never seen them so bad.

I asked DS to turn off the garden irrigation last night. He forgot. Walked right past it and did something else.

My garden watered for 24 hours......THANK GOODNESS I'm on a hill. Drip irrigation was set at .5 gallons per hour per head.....looking at about 800 gallons of water. Thank goodness we're on a well and not city water!

OH well. What can you do.

My boyfriend has done something similar, but we're on a cistern... almost ran us out of water.

The only thing I've managed to do lately is to yell at the cat for laying on my pumpkin and watermelon plants... it's like there's 5 acres and he only wants that 10 sqft

Good morning gardeners and welcome to our gardener thread @Taj_MaChicken. Hopefully the drama with the groundhog is over for this year. Still, I finished putting the 1 x 1 netting around the lower 18 inches of 2 x 4 wire fence (mostly for prospective hungry bunnies). The gap between the potting shed and the back gate was stuffed with rolled up chicken wire. I found some leftover pole bean seeds and soaked them overnight. I planted them a little while ago. The varmint didn't get the smaller baby lettuce so that should grow fine. Fortunately it's the heat tolerant variety. There are still some radishes growing, then there's the new seed that I planted last week is coming up. Spinach and turnips were spared, thankfully. This is the first year I have planted spinach and it actually came up. And yes @cavemanrich, this has been a very wet year since autumn and even through out the winter. I'm thinking putting together some rain barrels might be a good idea as all this rain may be followed by a long drought. Have a great day everyone.

G'morning gardeners

I went outside Wednesday night and watered the grass and lantana, then gave a few things a light sprinkle to wash off the dust. That's about it. We're going into maintenance mode now and trying to keep everything alive through the summer. No rain for us, we had a dry Spring and Summer isn't supposed to be any better.

My cats are obsessed with my carrot plants. None of the other ones, just the carrots. They dig them up and roll in them. I had to cover them with chicken wire to keep them out

We have a groundhog problem too! First time I saw it, it looked like a dog off in the distance! I'm pretty certain if it were carnivorous, it would've eaten my cat by now... that thing has to be 50 pounds.

It snuck up on my boyfriend once... he was sitting outside minding his own business and he hears rustling right behind him... he turns around... he screams, the groundhog screams... probably would've won me $10k on America's funniest home videos

I'm in NW Kentucky. I can't seem to find the picture I took of that thing, but I know if I were to put a harness on it, it would probably take me for a walk
