What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. Not getting off to a great start. Yesterday afternoon I noted something had been munching the lettuce in the garden so I opened up the Critter Ridder. I'm guessing this critter thought it was a condiment and came back for more. I got the lettuce, the radish tops, the broccoli and even started munching the peas and green beans. This was before my second cup of coffee. Ugh! I noticed they had not touched the beds with the onions in it so I cut up an onion and spread it all over. Hopefully this will keep them away until I can get the store to get some netting. I suspect rabbits. I've not seen many rabbits around here but these contractors have been clearing the property next to my neighbor on the side where the garden is. I suspect whatever had been living and eating there has been displaced and are happy to have discovered the garden. Oh, they even munched on the marigolds. We had heavy rain and thunderstorms overnight so they had to be really quick with their plundering. I hope everyone else is having a better day. :he

That is frustrating, but hope the onion works as a deterrent.

We have some bugs munching holes in the bean plant leaves, and a tiny black bug munching on potato leaves, leaving small brown circles. Looked it up and supposedly these are relatively harmless, but one plant is quickly getting covered. The potatoes are blooming though, which is good. Time to get out some pesticide if this doesn’t abate soon. Always hesitate to use pesticide due to beneficial insects, so am trying to wait it out. I’ve been seeing some beneficial lady bugs (not the Asian type), so I’m happy with that too.

I do not post here very much,,,, but read everything.:thumbsup
Whenever I think I may have a SOLUTION,,,,,,,, I try to share it.

My first Petunia bloom!
I’ve been moving dirt and the usual garden chores. Last year I had petunias in a 4 pot hanger (free standing post). The wind blew seeds all around. I’ve got them in the asparagus and it seems tiny strawberries are popping up in weird places. And I think tomato’s are in the flower beds too.
I’ll let them go for now.
I trimmed the tree by the coop (again) lovely to sit under...and no I don’t use those fancy-dancy thingie’s like @cavemanrich showed us...I use one of those grabbers (for old folks) I grab a branch pull it down & step on it...then cut!!:p
The gnats are super bad this year to the point that we didn’t even sit outside last night. I’m going to dust my girls today they’re suffering. Especially my SLW maybe because she’s dark (black)? Poor baby looks like “pigpen” from the Snoopy comic’s she’s got a cloud of gnats that always seems to be around her.
Vegas trip tomorrow Ugh.
Have a great day Gardeners!

There are folks posting about the gnats they are loosing birds to them so bad in areas
even when I consider moving end up in Belgian other states have awful parts I do not want to deal with guess I also think in the end I still want to be outside play in the dirt

Taking a break to let the ibuprofen kick in. I've put up 50 feet of 1 x 1 plastic fencing along the bottom of the 2 x 4 wire fence around the garden. Still have another 50 feet to put down before days end. I'm pretty sure it was a bunny chowing down on the greenery. A squirrel or a raccoon would have been less tidy. I have plenty of chicken wire to make cages around the beds as well if necessary. I'm really surprised the Critter Ridder didn't work. What I have on hand is the pellets and what I've used in the past was the spray. So confusing. Hey @cavemanrich, let me know if it works for you.

Thanks!

It’s a little like watching a pot boil...they don’t seem to be doing anything and I keep expecting them to start growing up and climbing. They supposedly get 6-8 feet tall as I recall from the description.
This is why I take pictures. When you look at them once or twice a day you don’t notice the growth. But take pictures to compare. Last finding on the hungry critter. I found the ground hog hole. I filled it with boards and metal. Will pour water down the hole and see what happens. And if the onions work, well they’re pretty cheap. I’m having to take so many breaks because the humidity is through the roof.
