What did you do in the garden today?

All our berries are younger plants think I may get one and half good meals from all my
brussle sprouts what does encourage me where I git some non performers they are sprouting think once all are cut I will black plastic them for winter leave them in the tires

Our pepper plants have been doing well. Red Italian types mostly. There are 4 that we will likely plant again. Dinners have been including sautéed peppers or grilled peppers -yum!

One new butternut squash has formed and bloomed on the plant!! I hand pollinated it, so I think we might get 1 more squash!

We sold 8 of the 9 teenage cockerels today. Kid was super-bored after 4 hours at the auction, so we left before ours sold. They will send us a check in the mail as long as it’s over $10. It is so much more peaceful in the chicken run today. Pullets aren’t screeching and running, and hens aren’t clucking in disproval and admonishing the boys. Crowing contests have ended. We kept a GLW male, and he hasn’t tried to crow yet, and seems to mind his manners so far.

I have a little Easter Egger cockerel to raise he is very nice so far ladies eat before him he has not crowed either took 5 marans cockerels to auction 2 weeks ago but 2 weeks ago I bought 3 blue marans 1 cockerel 2 pullets my silkie hatch or and raise peeps for me they where on 4 failed eggs needed to give them something to get over broody for the winter but going to keep all 3 blue marans.. dinner was beef pot pie here

what are you doing with all the pillow cases
I make and sell custom pillowcases. Since no one (except me) still uses bedspreads that are long enough to go up and over the pillows anymore. Although I have too many bed pillows to go under the spread anymore.

All you can get in stores is plain and boring and matchy matchy with your sheets, and the COST of them if you want decent cottons. And forget patterns or something fun! GOOD gravy!

I do kid stuff, boy stuff, classic, calicos, french country, and modern. I enjoy it. :) ((Unless it's harvest season and canning season! I'm up to my eyeballs here!) LOL.

Spent most of the day at a friend's house. We made 7 batches of watermelon jam, 1 batch of apple jelly and canned up some apples for pies.
She thought she had an apple pie filling recipe to use, but I told her that they all say you have to use sure gel now. She went through and read some of the reviews/comments and found one that said the same thing that I had told her. Cornstarch is not approved for canning. So she decided to make the recipe without the cornstarch and will just add the cornstarch when she opens the jars to make pies.

Then I came home and made another batch of the Corn and Cherry tomato salsa ( this time all the cherry tomatoes were from my garden!) and I made a batch of low sugar apple jelly. I also blanched another 3/4 pound of green beans and put them in the freezer. Now it's 1 AM and I am going to bed. :frow

I use cook type clearjel. I buy it buy the 5 pound bag at the loal mennonite market. I also buy they instant to make my own quick puddings.

The cook type is approved for canning.

I go ahead and make full on pie filling in the jar and send it off to boy scout camp outs where they dump it in this little pie makers or make cobbler with it.

Sounds like you had a fun day!

Good morning gardeners. Sounds like everyone has been quite busy. I may have mentioned this before @penny1960, I was in the grocery store around the corner a week ago and noticed their sorry looking Brussel sprouts. Your sprouts are infinitely more appealing. Thank you @WthrLady for shedding some light on something that has had me confused for a while. The whole short bedspread thing. I thought mine was just shrinking and that's why I can't cover the pillows without shorting the end of the bed. I put a folded quilt at the foot of the bed to cover that shortage up. Oh well, back to gardening. Slim pickings in the garden this morning, however I should have some nice green beans in a day or two. Not really enough to freeze so I may venture to a farmer's market to find some locally grown. The leeks are still looking good and growing ever so slowly and the few butternut squash are ripening. I'm debating whether to can or freeze the currently ripe tomatoes. I used a few in the soup I made last night and they were not overly ripe. I really don't like to use the canner for fewer than 4 jars because of the amount of water necessary so freezing might be a better option. Happy canning all and have a great day.
