Trench for the drain pipes off the barn. This trench is 80 Feet long! Double wide for the back portion that is 50 feet long- because it will fit 2 drain pipes:

Too cold for me today to do any work outside. I went through the closets and got rid of stuff we don't wear any more. I have 2 big black trash bags full and ready to go to Goodwill.

Edited to add: My Mom is doing all right. I went to see her for about an hour today. Her back was really hurting, but this type of weather (rainy & cold) always makes her back hurt..

Always good I hurt when it colds here can identify with that, this is my excuse to cold to outside bought 10 speckled sussex ooops no 15 thought she ordered 10 at the feed store but when my cohort counted she looked at me 15 went darn called the feed store told them go in the next day or so pay them

Sooooo cute, Penny1960! I have been thinking of getting some speckled sussex for awhile now. Maybe next summer...
So, I woke up around 1:30 am, and the wind is howling outside so bad that I can't get back to sleep. My alarm will go off at 3:00, so I just finally gave up and hopped on my laptop for a few minutes. Have to go to work today - ugghh (I'm going to be so tired!). It's pretty cold out for October. Wind chills in the 20's. I'm dreading the walk to the coop this morning. The outside stairs look slippery, and it's hard to maneuver them with chicken dishes in my hands. Our automatic chicken door arrived yesterday, but of course no time to install it till next week.

Good morning gardeners. The weather is improving slightly. Still a little on the cool side. It almost got up to 60F yesterday. Not much rain, occasional sprinkles. I was able to let the chickens out for a bit. I let them out this morning while I was cleaning up the coop. I think the hens have stopped laying. Not sure if it's just a slow down from the cloudy skies and less light. The pullets are still going strong so I'm not going to run out of eggs. After I cleaned up the coop I took a little time in the garden to clean up another bed. That's 3 down, 3 to go. It's a little less painful taking it one bed at a time. Thanks for the reminder @karenerwin and @WthrLady to purge clothes. I've got a drawer full of nearly new socks that I don't wear because they are too snug around my ankles. I hang most of my clothes in the closet because there is just not enough drawer space. This would help me as well as doing a kindness for some one else. Have a great day everyone.

Good morning gardeners. It's a beautiful morning here. Cool temps and sunshine.

I cleaned the coops, gave the chickens fresh water, swept the patio and spread bunny poop in the garden. I had to somewhat reassemble the compost pile, then turned the tumblers after adding this weeks kitchen waste and pulled a few weeds in the front yard.

I'm pretty sure all the aloe I transplanted in Spring are going to be fine, they're starting to green up now that it's cooler. The hibiscus is leaning a bit after some strong winds, I'm headed out to figure how to deal with that after a break and some water. I need to wet down the litter in the big coop still but the girls were in there laying their eggs so that'll have to wait. One of them is quite disgruntled about not getting to the preferred nest first

Afternoon!

Cool & cloudy here. Laundry on the line is taking forever.

I got 2 of 4 beds cleaned, composted & mulched. 2 more to do later. Got the garlic planted too.

Hung the heated waterer for the girls, not plugged in yet, just wanted them to get used to it because I was sure they'd be afraid of it but they were under foot trying to drink from it while I was screwing the screws into the post! Silly chickens.

We decided to cut out flour & sugar here, so low carb I suppose, so I've been cooking lunches to freeze.
