What did you do in the garden today?

Good afternoon/evening gardeners! Happy Saturday
Auntie purchased us all tickets to a silent auction/ scholarship fundraiser breakfast at the HS for this morning. Food was only so-so at best but the crowd was good fun. MIL got to see old friends and make new friends, she had a good time and ate better than the rest of us. Not bad for a 93 yo 90lb gal.
Then we all went to go feed the horses on the way home while I reset the dog trap. Yes, still trying for that darn dog. DH tied a wild chicken I shot to the right side of the trap and had a hit last night but the trap did not close so I wired this mornings wild rooster to the left more sensitive side of the trap and feel confident we will catch the dog this time.

After breakfast and the mornings horse feed it was a bit too windy to paint so I cleaned up our Lauhala (Pandanas or screw palm) tree and 2 out of 3 White Bird of Paradise's while hunting for geckos and their eggs with the girls. That is always fun. Looks pretty rockin and worth all of the scratches and splinters. Lauhala's can be a bit of a cat fight but I'm glad I got it done.

Our winds are clocked @ 29 mph today and still bringing in cooler temps 79-61. I finally got to wear a light scarf with my lightweight sweater @ this mornings breakfast but did have to take it off once out of the wind. Brrrr lol.

Well My EE cockerel had buffaloed the blue marans cockerel who is like 4 months younger sent the poor boy cowering in his grow out coop with a new group of ladies who are petrified of him but for the pair I bought last week maybe I just created a new coop

Good morning gardeners. Thank you so much @WthrLady for the graphic on Maryland tornadoes. I'm a weather watcher and remembered numerous storms back in the day. And yes @TropicalBabies, F0's and F1's do count and they do a lot of damage. There were 3 less intense tornadoes on Cape Cod just this past summer and they did quite a bit of damage. No serious personal injuries. Well the temperature was 10F this morning when I crawled out of bed, but it has warmed up to a balmy 17F and is expected to go up into the low 30's. I was looking at okra plants online and they produce some very lovely flowers, so I'm thinking I will plant them in my front yard. The neighbors won't recognize them as okra plants, just flowers. LOL! The best sun is in the front yard so they should do well there. I'm swapping out the bell peppers this year and planting them in the large pots in the front yard and planting jalapenos in the main garden. I was disappointed with my pepper harvest last summer so hopefully this works out. Nothing to do outside today, just making sure the chicken's have liquid water to drink. All that slush is frozen solid so hopefully there will be some melting today. Have a great day everyone.

Good morning gardeners. When I was a kid in MO people didn't go into their basements and farmers stayed in their fields until they could see the tornado headed their direction and it might hit. My folks knew a few people that narrowly escaped with their lives, but that was how it was done, crazy. I've got the hose on in the garden already but the sun isn't up yet. The sky is clear, the moon is full, and it's not too hot or too cold. I'm wearing shorts, flip flops and a sweatshirt. Fortunately the storm headed our way will bring mid 40s for the overnight lows this week rather than freezing temps. I got the ginger planted and put the pots in the garden where they get filtered sun, the hibiscus dug up and replanted, might give it something to prevent shock and it still may need support. Hubs got the pop door fixed on the coop and we're working on the nest box today. We're headed out for groceries early so we can get stuff done here, have a great day everyone!

So, regarding the ginger, how large of a pot do you need to plant it? This is on my wish list for future plants and I would like to follow your experience with it. Of course my ginger plant would have to be a houseplant.

Yes you definitely learned to watch the sky at a young age back then. I'm sure that's still true. ETA I always knew when a thunderstorm was coming because the hair on my arms would stand up and yes, ears crackling too. You could almost feel the tension in the air.

I put the ginger in a half gallon pot to start. If I get any sprouts I'm going to transplant, but I'm not sure where. I need to read more about growing it before I decide but I'll let you know. I know it prefers partial to full shade so I imagine a window with bright filtered light would work.

Nice when you can see forever and avoid the problem. Out on the prairie in the late 1800s as long as you got away from the buildings you'd be ok, (Unless it was a huge tornado). It's the debris that kills. Now a days, put yourself in the middle of a subdivision, projectiles everywhere.

Winds howling to 50 today. I have a batch of sewing to do. It's time to make a pile of pinafore aprons for etsy. They are wildly popular for me come spring and planting season. I use old linen table cloths that are past their table worthy-ness, usually due to styles. LOL. Most are custom made, and I need to make a new corn bag for in the microwave, which I use as a proof box for my breads.

Speaking of which, I had a mill for my kitchenaid that I returned. It was killing my machine. I had a nutrimill plus delivered friday! OH MY ! 20 cups of fine whole wheat flour in under 4 minutes. Hot diggity! Did a pair of amazing pre-ferment breads YUM YUM.

I got out this morning and finished cutting down the apple tree. It's on the backside of a mound of dirt, so I will have to cut the stump lower after I level out the dirt when preparing the ground for gardening. The garden is going to go from the fat left all the way to the white fence on the right. I still have a large pile of branches I need to put through the shredder. It started snowing though, so that will have to wait until another day.

Hey good morning Gardeners ... We have had rain like the 90 days .. Silly weatherman oh we have no rain two days.. Like that will fix everything.. Everything north of us flooded like 4 feet deep... no gardening maybe next two months
