What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning @WthrLady. Glad you're up and online. I still have some neem oil and fungicide spray that I got two seasons ago. Does that stuff really go bad? And when should I spray the fruit trees? When they have buds or blooms? Or after? I know it's early so if you need to caffeinate some more I'll be patient.

You're good. Kept at normal temps it lasts a while and goes a long way. I spray at different stages all summer. All my notes are buried in the shed ATM. I spray at right before blossoming, after at leafing, and then another later. I have a friend who sprays every two weeks.
I'll dig them out after my boots dry.

Snow this morning. Supposed to get only 0.5” total, but have 1.5” at least of the big, fat, fluffy type of snow and it’s still snowing. I think it’s going to rain, though, so it will be gone.

still hunting for sulfur amendment. I could overpay for small bags at one place, but no one has larger bags yet. well, at least I have time to get some and till it in.

We have 3 males: all cockerels at 11 months (1), and 8 months (2). The younger males, particularly one of them, are just way over mating nearly every hen/pullet that they can. Missing feathers, etc. Kid wants to show them at fair, so we need to separate them. As it turns out, the compost bin project (now finished) will house them in separate pens. As we only have 1 pile of compost, they will get the next two bins until fair time in a few months. We will give them a solid top, and will put up a gate front. Each section of the compost piles are 6’x4’ so they will have ample room to move. Also we will add several more perches throughout the run. They already have some, but now every hen/pullet can sit on a perch when they want and not get mated numerous times a day. The 11 month old has been a good cockerel, he stays out of our way so far and reprimands the younger males, but he can’t be everywhere all the time. Hopefully this works, and the feathers grow back in on those missing feathers.

Since buds are developing now, I should spray before they open. Makes sense since I need the pollinators healthy. Thank you so much. My friend who is the experienced Apple grower hasn’t responded to my emails. I think he’s cooking maple sap.

Got my horseradish bed tilled , also got my Basil started , gotta have basil for the home made sauce .

I was at Home depot earlier today and they had "Kellogg Raised Bed And Potting Mix" in 3 cu ft bags on clearance for $2 per bag , I grabbed 20 bags . I used the same last year for my patio plants and basjoo banana trees and it is not bad . I'll use it to add to my horseradish bed and veggie garden and some patio pots .

Our blueberries are flowering!!! -planted a bush in a big whiskey barrel underneath a pine tree out back, and it has been an amazing producer for about five years, now! (planted in peat moss, and mulched over winter with pine needles) -rain today, so not much gardening. Cilantro, sage, thyme, parsley, mint, lemon balm, onion chives, and oregano overwintered well in the garden. -pruning back the rosemary (if there's a break in the clouds later) in the perennial beds. It has grown to two feet tall.

yes, we put coffee grounds inThe compost. Pine needles -we have access to some. The pH is7.8, so it needs a lot of amending to lower it, and I think sulfur is going to have to be part of the equation. We also have peat moss to add, which also lowers the pH.

If it helps, the tree specialist I spoke with told me to do it at bud swell, petal drop, and leaf drop.
