What did you do in the garden today?

We're having a heat wave here along the Ca coast. Now, of course the fires are all starting up. This is the sky, this morning. My tomatoes are just beginning to ripen. Wonder if they will be getting enough sunlight to turn them red. Drat!!!!

@Wee Farmer Sarah we eat fresh dug potatoes -yours look great to use today!

glad your appraisal is done!
Thank you. I did “google it” and apparently you only need to let them cure a bit for long term storage. I doubt if that will be the case with my potatoes. I can leave them in the ground for awhile and pick as needed. I was most surprised at “no bugs” considering how bad the bugs are this year.

Chicken Alert! Glyness (my current avatar) laid her first egg at 8 am this morning! She then went back to her nest box and declined comment (her buds were worried) and an hour and a half later, produced a second smaller egg! Both lays were accompanied with vigorous egg song!

The eggs are both small and it's hard to tell here, but the bigger one is olive green and the second is a little more on the turquoise side. She hatched on April 8th so she's starting early and 2 in one day? She sang for the second one for a good 20 minutes. Gonna go check on her again, I'll make a normal post later. :)

I'm hoping to grow the Thai peppers next year. I know they're not that hot compared to the Carolina Reapers but they're a favorite for me. And jalapenos; sometimes I'll wait and pick those when they're red. I know you said some folks think they have less heat and flavor then, but I like them that way sometimes. Less heat yes, but a slightly sweet flavor.
The Thai pepper seed you sent me arrived!! Thank you so very much!!

@NewBoots Glyness is an awesome overachiever! I also forgot to congratulate @Wee Farmer Sarah on her new little layer!

I just spent an obscene amount of money on a set of Wusthof knives. I'm so sick of cutting myself because my current knives suck. I've been wanting a good set for a while now. I feel so grown up. :gig

Good knives are awesome. And when you cut yourself on a good knife - it is such a clean cut (hopefully not deep) that it heals really fast too. I'm sure you can figure out how I know this....I'll give you one guess.
