What did you do in the garden today?

You should def grow some next year! They're a bit of a pain cuz they're bulbs that can't stay in the ground here, but they're the one plant that I grow that has no use except to look at!

I finished my marinated stuffed cherry peppers. They look pretty.

Lazy day but need to clean coops
I took a coop out of commission for a year and cleaned it today... English Ivy invaded lol. I had to remodel the coop because it had some functional flaws.

I actually enjoy cleaning them because I enjoy making my compost pile grow

I've got some tomatoes ripening on the vine still & no sign of a frost yet so I hesitate to tear them out but I need to get the garden to bed.
Same here, but the itch to clear out the beds is really hard to resist. The vines are dying back for sure but there's going to be probably another 12 pounds or so usable fruit if I just give them a little more time.
As for child drama, well my dad sold everything I left in boxes at home at a yard sale. I was livid but he didn’t want it there and I didn’t have a place for it.
OMG, what a purge! Can't say I blame your dad too much though.

Those look great! Did you water bath or pressure can them? Next year I really want to get to the valley and see what we can pick up to add to the stored produce.

I think today I'll let the ladies out of the run and into the open yard. They come to me so well especially if I have a treat or they think I do and they're long past the "worms are icky" stage now and go for anything that moves. We'll see, I need to pick up dog doots and get the weeds whacked down so I can mow before the rain comes this weekend. More garlic arrived so that needs planting, I probably have too much to get into devoted beds so I'll poke it into spaces between the berry bushes.

One of the ladies evidently spent the night in one of the nest boxes. I cleaned it up but I hope that doesn't become a habit, it was one of the favorite boxes. I'll check on them after dark tonight and make sure it doesn't happen again.

Winter Garden update:

The 2 Horizontal boards are the top of the door. the Door is about 7 feet high incase I squeeze in any tall plants/trees.

The above imagines are where I cut away at the door frame so the door fit easier. Below is the bottom corner of the door that needed a bit cut off. I can sand these to make them look nice if its needed.

Passive Vent door: this is the the top of the 2 foot section that is permanent. The rest of this north wooden wall will be taken down next summer when I extend the greenhouse. I came to the conclusion that this odd corner in the future will trap hot moist air that I may want to vent out from time to time so figured it would not hurt to put in a vent door. Its not complete because 5 o'clock hit before I could cut out 2 pieces of wood for the end.

Above: a look from 2 different angles.

Vent Opened. It opens further than that but I can only hold it up so high while working a camera. I have something right there to fix it to holding it open fully.

The inside view.. Now I just have to finish the edges of the passive vent and 2 small areas on both sides of the main door. I may finish the back wall tonight or later this week.

It looks great @Compost King!

I did neither, they are marinating in oil now, they marinated in vinegar for a week before this. They don't last forever, but they won't last long here, lol. This is the recipe I used. I picked it because of the vinegar first, give it a twang, then the oil.

Got another bed done & cover crop planted. 2 more to do! I almost have enough compost for the garden this year, yay!

Good afternoon all. I did nothing outside today except fill waterers and feed the chickens. I was busy this afternoon baking and making dinner. Hubs has to work this Saturday so I’ll spend the better part of the day outside. Since I won’t have to cook dinner tomorrow I’ll get out there and work on the oleanders in the afternoon.

I actually got the weed whacking done, tomorrow I'll mow. I let 4 of the ladies (the only ones brave enough to come out) out in the yard and it wasn't a disaster, no one got killed or hurt. 2 of them were just fine, wandered around a bit and pecked at things. 2 freaked out when the cat or the dog (both too small to be a real danger) and 1 ran back in the run and the other ran into the coop so all in all, not too bad really. It's a shame it wasn't more successful, the weed whacking stirred up a bunch of crickets and spiders. After I mow tomorrow I'll give it another go. I'll see about ordering some portable fencing so I can move them around.

We had baked delicata squash and greens for lunch today, all grown here and so good.

And my canned salsa:

Salsa and chips for dinner I think, too tired for much else.

And thanks for the recipe @Sueby !
