What did you do in the garden today?

Good Evening! We are waterlogged here, and up to our knees in icy cold mud! We are having a very mild winter so far-almost no snow- and I just couldn't believe that I was harvesting rosemary , sage, and the last of my rainbow chard and Siberian kale in DECEMBER☺️ That was a first for us! I gave the greens to my quail and chookies before my sons turned and composted all of the raised beds. I potted my rosemary to bring in for wintering. I had a few rows of tiny carrots that my grandson had planted for fun in late August that were still growing beneath the row cover, so the chooks got them too. Will start greens and herbs under the lights indoors soon.
I just love using our home grown meats, veggies and herbs to prepare our Christmas feast! It is so wonderful to read about everyone on BYC taking care of their gardens and animals, and their winter holiday preparations.

I keep these in the freezer for a long time. I also cut them into much smaller pieces. My dogs ❤ them!
View attachment 2457955Oh, and I leave out the garlic because I read somewhere ( I think on here or in another dog snack cookbook) that garlic is bad for dogs.
I also usually cook them longer than it says and I don’t use grease proof grease paper. 🤣 I just spray the baking pan with a cooking spray.
You’re awesome Karen, thank you so very much! I have dehydrated beef liver for the pups before but never tried anything like this. Will be fun to do over the holiday weekend.

Attempting to make a sweet curry out of cauliflower, leftover meaty bone from the weekend's lamb-leg roast, chick peas, sautéed sweet onions, and a couple leftover less-than-fresh bananas.

I love mixing my own curry - cumin, cardamom, turmeric in roughly equal portions, then maybe adding ginger, garlic, red pepper, paprika, according to how sweet and/or spicy the dish is supposed to be.

I messed this up though! I bought both sour cream and plain Greek Yogurt to add to it. I mistakenly added the sour cream first, assuming the Greek Yogurt would be runny like average plain yogurt. Wrong, the plain Greek Yogurt has the consistency of sour cream and the tangy taste of yogurt. I should have left out the sour cream, it was all about texture after all.
Oh well, I doubled-up on the curry spices and made it a dish to add on top of rice instead of a dish to eat on its own.

I'm still questioning my cabbages, they're still looking healthy while not growing much, and sitting the same in the garden. A couple seem to be forming teeny-tiny heads - whatever, I'll give them their chance to become sauerkraut, but buy local farmer's-market cabbages to make sauerkraut if mine aren't ready to harvest by the time my current fermenting jars are ready.

On a different note, one of the puppies has a knot/ lump on her head. 😞 At first we figured she must have gotten it wrestling with her sister. But it’s been a week and it isn’t going away. 😞
She has a vet appointment on Tuesday to see what is going on. It doesn’t seem to bother her any. It feels kind of soft and a little squishy. View attachment 2457964View attachment 2457965View attachment 2457966
I’m hoping it isn’t anything serious. She is only 9 months old.
Subacious cyst my spelling may be off . I had one a few years ago . Animals get them also .

I’m hoping it’s just a cyst and nothing serious Karen. Look at that little face!! :love

Good morning gardeners. Happy Winter Solstice to you as well @Sueby. I slept in a bit this morning. Yay! No workers or painters showing up today. We got an additional 3.5 inches of snow yesterday (that's on top of the 15.5 inches already on the ground). I didn't really notice the accumulation because we frequently get all day snow showers. It just makes me feel that my little Wee Farm Bubble is actually a snowglobe. LOL! I'm off to do some last minute shopping this morning. DD went out to do errands on Saturday and has sworn to stay home until after Christmas as the crowds were a bit much. Your ducks are adorable @igorsMistress. I had a pet duck when I was a child. She was a great pet. Good to hear you are better @karenerwin. The lump on your dog likely is a soft tumor or cyst. My little chihuahua had them on her tiny body, but all benign. I'm doing ok with the eggs. I have 3 pullets but am getting 4 to 5 eggs some days so I know that the hens are laying once in a while. I suspect my two remaining RIR hens may be the layers. My biggest problem is one of my BO's is hiding eggs to brood. I think I've figured out all of her hiding places. Have a great day all!
