Today I’ll be prepping the new strawberry beds for the plants that are supposed to come tomorrow, I’ll be racing the rain/snow that’s supposed to start tomorrow night. The weather people can’t seem to make up they’re mind on which it will be.

Ordered potato starts! Yes, I can get some starts locally in the early spring, but wanted to try some other varieties. Last year - before all the Covid shutdowns and craziness really took hold, potato starts were already sold out, so I went with local sources, which was fine. However, I was seed shopping and saw a full selection of potatoes - nothing sold out yet - so decided to buy 3 varieties. But, wow - cost seems high, I guess bc demand is there.

I need to find bug netting that isn't crazy $$ - I don't think I'll be successful with brassicas without it - the cabbage loopers were unreal last season....alll season....even with cold weather in Oct once warmed up a bit during the day there were several moths, so I couldn't get them under control even with Bt applied regularly.

Also will be looking for heating pads for seed trays. Germination should be much better with seedling heat pads.

@Wee Farmer Sarah I love the parade. & Randy sounds like such a good boy, but you sure don't want any nekkid ladies this time of year, I get that!

I really need to sit down & plan out the garden. I'm just so up in the air on what to plant because of the stupid squash & cuke bugs. I'm really thinking of skipping it all & going with just onions, garlic, green beans & lettuce.

a friend of mine made a low frame - sort of low raised bed, filled in with garden top soil and planted sweet potatoes in there. easy to harvest.

would you mind to share the recipe for custard like substance and jam?

I will try to get the recipes for you but understand, This is NOT sweet potato or anything like it. It is a plant that is native to the Philippines. Only place I have ever seen it sold is in very few oriental markets. It is not fibrous like sweet potato/yam. Things in common = it is a tuber growing underground and it is sweet. otherwiswe nothing else in common.

Good morning gardeners. Sounds like quite the to-do at your house @karenerwin. Glad all the chickens were accounted for. And sadly, @Sueby, I don't let Randy have any conjugal visits with the ladies yet. He's such a good chicken, but his sheer size is a bit too much for the girls and I don't want them to lose any feathers as we head into January. He used to go into his coop at dusk and wait for me to close his door, however lately he waits for me to come and pick him off his roost in his run. I hold him for a couple of minutes and pet him then put him into his coop. As for your darling duck babies @igorsMistress, give him some time to get his feathers. The difference in voice is pretty telling with the girls being the loudest with traditional "quack, quack" sounds. Also, male ducks will have at least one curled tail feather. I don't believe the ladies ever have curled tail feathers. I was able to buy some seeds yesterday at my discount store. I found some bush variety of green beans. Also bought some Mesculin mix lettuce to try growing indoors. I remembered to buy marigold seeds so hopefully that will help with the bugs. I thought some of you in the warmer climates might appreciate my parade of hardy New Englanders taking a winter stroll. Have a great day all.

SO THAT"S why my friends across the pond were talking about locking the birds up and not letting them out. I couldn't figure it out, the weather is still so nice there. Now I get it.
