Happy Christmas to those that do.

DH carved me a gnome for my shop front. It's so cute. He left it for me to finish as he didn't know if I wanted to paint or stain it.

Suzie got a new collar and a stuffed squirrel.

The Boy got stuff for his car and of course snacks for the dorm.

MIL sent a quilt, she has cats. I tossed it in the wash, so I am now breaking out in a nice red rash and blisters.

I caught my rooster sleeping on the floor in the corner of the coop last night. NO idea why, I felt bad for him, like he was letting the girls have all the warm spaces. It was 5 degrees at 2am, but the coop was at 20. SO I bundled up and plopped him in the heated workshop. DANG he's big and heavy. I thought I was going to wake up to a dead Roo, but nope.... they're all out free-ranging as we speak. He's 5 so who knows. He is the sweetest thing.

Good morning gardeners. Happy Boxing Day and / or Kwanzaa. I hope all of you that celebrate had a nice Christmas. New England got socked by a very wet Nor'easter all day. I did the math and with the existing 18 inches of snow on the ground and the 2 inches of rain the precipitation total came to around 4 inches of water. The basement wall held up pretty good except for some minor dampness between a few of the floor tiles. I can't complain. DD showered me with chicken related gifts from a Porcelain Spectacled Sussex rooster, a chicken windchime, salt and pepper shakers and even chicken socks. My favorite was that danged weed picker I had on order for two months during the beginning of the pandemic and just gave up on. I was totally shocked that she found a vendor that actually delivered it. I can't wait to attack the bumper crop of dandelions that plague my yard. The weather is getting back to normal with cooler temps and a few flurries and no real precipitation for a week. The Christmas trees will be coming down in a week so I can attempt to cultivate some greens in my sunroom. The hydroponic bibb lettuce is really growing well in my kitchen window. It gets alot of light but sunlight is rare in there as it is an east facing window. But it is actually growing. Today is a turkey vegetable soup kind of day. A nice follow up to all the goodies that were consumed yesterday. Happy holidays all.

Good morning gardeners. This morning we need to run to TSC for a couple of things and stop at walmart for some potatoes and a bucket with a lid. Yesterday I opened the bag of potatoes I bought, not my normal practice but covid, and every single one was green or bad; we ended up having Chinese food for dinner. Tonight will be the ham and potatoes planned for last night. The ducklings are making a wet mess in the coop so the bucket is to make a waterer with a lid so they can drink but not swim. I’ve set up a little pool outside for them with access through the pop door and they have the opportunity to explore the yard if they’re so inclined. They are starting to really show color changes now and are growing so fast, will get some pics later to share. I plan to get the weeding done today, never did get out there to do that last week, as we have a possible chance of rain Monday. Also need to water a bit and plant the carrots. I’m worried that the mild winter is going to mean a brutal summer so I’m going to start getting tomatoes, jalapeños and squash in pots next weekend with two successive sowings over the following month. Frankenwagon will come in handy as a mini greenhouse. I can cover overnight easily with the row cover cloth and uncover after temps warm up a bit in the morning. Can’t wait for some fresh tomatoes from the garden! The herbs are doing great and everything else is in hold mode for the winter. Have a great day everyone!

Today, I’m planning on finishing Mulching the perennial bed I’ve kept putting it off but it has to be done. I’ve spent most of the morning doing research as I just learned that it’s possible to grow so very hardy citrus and avocado here with protection. Specifically Satsumas and Del Rio/Prior. We’re in 7b but it rarely drops below 20 for example this year has been mild and last night is the coldest it’s gotten all year with a low of 19. It will probably be a few years before I can try any of them if I ever do but it’s exciting to know I can!

Morning Gardeners happy boxing day. The Son went yesterday to the garden dug potato nice load of them .. We do not get hard freeze so they are good .. Had a great dinner with them ...

I dug over a CUBIC YARD of rich, black gold compost from my deep litter run.

My achin back !

Tomorrow, I get to muck out the deep litter in the coop, (8' x 20') and move it to the run for further decomposition.

We are having a couple of nice days, and I procrastinated for too long .....

Going to clean coops now went to the feed store 135 bucks later chicken food and oyster plus cat food

Ya. that's me on Monday. Alpaca feed, chicken feed/scratch, pine shavings, mineral buckets, stall pellets......THEN the people grocery before the next storm. Gonna be a $$$$$$$ day.
