What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. Got my trash barrel from the backyard dumped into the big barrel at the curb before the truck showed up. Now I’m waiting for the sun so I can get started on chores. Hubs is working a few hours today, then this afternoon we’re headed to Home Depot for a few things to beef up the mini coop so the ducks can move in sooner rather than later. Hubs surprised me for our anniversary with four Egyptian Fayoumi pullets! They won’t arrive until April so I hope that’s long enough to get rid of whatever it was that went through my last flock. It’ll be more than six months since chickens or pigeons have been here. I’m going to sanitize the coop again, remove all the litter and keep it empty until they get here. I’d been talking about trying this breed for their heat hardiness and disease resistance, particularly to Marek’s. I wanted to breed them with bantam Turkens initially but no breeding or hatching for me for a while. I’m excited to give them a try! I was going to wait until next year but hubs says every time I look at the chicks in the bins at the feed stores he can tell I miss my chickens. Love that guy! Have a great day everyone!

Good morning gardeners. No outdoor work today. We got an inch or two of wet snow overnight and then rain so now we have two inches of slippery slush on the ground. I did a little online shopping this morning. My ceiling light fixture is uncomfortable to my eyes so I ordered a floor lamp that blends in with the garden theme. I need to start taking down the Christmas trees and other decorations today. I will likely wait until later in the week to order the seeds in my shopping cart at Pine Garden Seed. I think I need to learn more about potato varieties before commiting to one, so I won't be ordering them right now. I would love to put up a greenhouse however my patio needs some serious work first. After having the window well rebuilt I realized how poorly designed the patio is. So I'm thinking since the lower retaining wall needs work, why not push the wall back a little to expand the grilling and seating area. Although, not a project for mid winter. I got another wind chime for Christmas and finally got it hung up yesterday. I'm thinking I need to replace the bar I'm using to hang them from.

Morning all. Busy beavers this morning I see.
We're on day 3 of zero visibility freezing fog. I need to go into town today and run errands. I've not been down in over a week. I'm getting squirrel-y.

DS goes back to university today.

DH will hang at the house chasing the critters and reading.

I need to finish this knitting project and go park my butt on the loom and get it threaded. What did I do instead yesterday? Rabbit hole, straight down- I too want a small greenhouse/hot house AND I want another small building - like coop. So I don't know what my issue is. Do I want the build project? Or more critters, like a couple of geese? Or both.....no idea. I was thinking an A-frame for geese....

Got my seeds in. I found ice in the bag of dirt so will definitely be putting the row cover on at night for a bit. Talked with h hubs yesterday about expanding the garden before we the fence up around it. He said he knew that was coming  So I’ll be moving mulch and blocks soon to determine how many more blocks I need to haul out there to finish it. At least the long side is done, so maybe four or five will be enough. I’m debating about putting down a black trash bag over the wood to help absorb heat under the pots and maybe some hay for insulation, but here’s Frankenwagon and his load for now.

I spent the day doing ungodly amounts of research on building my own greenhouse using row cover fabric versus a greenhouse kit, researching reseeding my horse pasture, and spent WAY too much money on horse friendly wildflowers and herb seeds.... All of which I'm hoping to use for my chickens and goats too....
8x 30 cattle panel hoophouse is how we went on our budget, Loving it..
