What did you do in the garden today?

I dunno, dill. It’s very happy though. The main stem is bigger around than my thumb. I’ve been trimming it to feed to the ducks and bunnies

I think it is not dill at all. it looks like what we call marathos - a sort of fennel. we use it in spinach pie and other dishes. it is somewhat milder than dill.

Tastes and smells like dill to me. It said dill on the package. I have been trimming it all winter and there was a LOT of bunny poop in that bed which is conducive to lots of greenery so I dunno.

I’ve just never seen dill so bushy before, but could be because I’m not trimming 🤔 what zone are you in?

So I had several pots of artichokes that didn’t come up. (After like 3 weeks of extra heat!) About a week ago I set one on top of the tortoises cage to remember to take it out. Well unfortunately the new cat knocked it over and most of it went in the carpet a little bit went in the cage. Today I look in the cage and what do I see? AN ARTICHOKE SEEDLING!

Maybe start the next batch of seeds in coco fiber. It looks like that's what you use for being in the tortoise terrarium.

I’ve considered doing that before. I’ll have to see if Walmart still has some for cheap. Maybe do a test to see how it compares to the seed starting mix when I start my fall veggies. Just looked it up they still sell it. 2.25 cubic feet for $20. That’s way cheaper than what I’ve been paying for seed starting mix.

Good morning all! The boys helped me get the bulk trash out already, it went faster than I thought it would. Hubs has started on the garden enclosure and the ducks are foraging in the compost pile. I’m going to drag out the hose for their pool to test drainage and water the desert plants. The dregs will go to the duck weed. I’ve started using their drinking water for the shrubs in the rest of the yard so everything gets watered regularly and I just rotate through in the same pattern. The weather is cool but comfortable enough for a tshirt if you keep moving. Hubs is back, time for a consultation and to get back to work. Have a great day everyone!

Picked up that horse manure yesterday and emptied the truck out this morning. There was enough, two large bobcat scoops, to get three 4x12' beds covered ~4 inches or so. There were quite a few huge beetle grubs of some sort in it that we came across as we were unloading. The girls went nuts over the ones I gave them; this is the first thing I've given them that I got the "Mine! Mine! Mine! You can't have it!" chase and pursuit. Most of the kitchen scraps I've handed out have been met with suspicion and an "Is this food?" scepticism. I didn't want to give them every grub we came across as there were rather a lot and I felt they would be rather richer than what they're used to, so I've got 12-15 in a coffee can filled with compost to be handed out in the next day or two.
