What did you do in the garden today?

Woke up to 17 degrees today down here in south Texas. Almost a record but supposed to be colder tomorrow. Had about an inch of what looked like snow on the driveway but I think it was sleet. Had little snow falling all day long. Tryin to thaw out some pipes @ my duplex next door. My insulation job didn't work as planned. Workin with a strip of electrical heat tracing now. Onions didn't take the cold very well but have withstood those temps before so I may be OK. Loquat trees already had young, little fruit on them. They're toast! will probably set another crop but will not be as good. Had covered up stuff in tubs with cardboard: Lettuce, green onions. oregano, Cilantro/parsley, and a couple pineapple plants. Afraid to remove the cardboard. Mustard came through without a scratch though. I severely dislike cold weather! Just glad this doesn't happen very often. Last time was about 15 yrs ago. Cheers!

That lettuce looks amazing! I haven't been successful growing lettuce yet. I've tried several times but it always dies.... Even trying to grow it indoors where it's temperature controlled and haven't been successful. I will figure it out eventually! ☺
Good time to learn. Texas salad crops are taking a hit.

heading for -24F tonight, windchill of -45F. Ya. Sigh. Rolling blackouts to shove more power to Oklahoma and Texas. I keep my house at 66-64 degrees, and I can put on more clothes. Without power we have no water, so we've filled the buckets in the shop. We'll have to break ice for the animals as their buckets will no longer be heated. I'm so burned out.

Morning everyone! I'm back from vacation - a long 3 weeks on the road & I'm happy to be home. Looks like they did an upgrade here. What'd I miss?

Came home to the garden fence down because the plow guy didn't have enough room to get by (not his fault, it's a tight squeeze) & 2 littles with bright red combs, should be laying soon. & my other hen that took the winter off laid a soft shelled egg so she's ramping back up. Oh & I'm letting the littles in with the big girls today...🤞

Also came home to a big bowl of lettuce ready to pick, that took forever:

This was the set up for the trip, drove from CT to CA & back with a bunch of stops in between:

Patrick loves the desert:

I went to Bryce Canyon for a day, very cool:

I'm gonna try to catch up a little, but there is no way I can get back 3 weeks. Have a great day all. I need to go shovel some snow...come on spring!
Welcome home. Beautiful pics, thanks for sharing!

Snowing...and Blowing.

Cold...Cold...Cold!

Here are my Alpine Strawberries. They were started in Jan 2019, planted in their respective pots that summer.

In the garage - they get light from a nearby window. But it is a north facing window, so not direct light.

Here they are on the deck. They came back great last summer - as soon as it started warming up. But, it is a larger pot than what you see in the above pic. Also, I put this pot in a less windy area on the deck, so they are not terribly wind abused. But, you can see they were producing strawberries right up to the cold time. You can see small dried (brown) strawberries on some of the dried stems.
