What did you do in the garden today?

I am aware of the scape, but didn't know when to cut it or how to cook it. So it has a garlic taste? Is it like green onion, but the garlic version?
Cut them once they loop around once. I like them in a frittata. Or grilled with veggies. Or just put oil & salt on them & grill them. Only hardneck garlic has scapes, softneck does not. It tastes like mild garlic - I love them! Yum!

It’s been one of those weeks here. Had amputate part of a waddle 2 days ago. and today I had to rescue a sparrow from the cat and fell down the steps twice already! It’s not even 9 am.
Barred rocks do occasionally get a pale leg gene in there. One of my roosters has it and he’s definitely a BR.
So what does she look like to you? One from today & then one a few weeks ago. & sorry you're having a sucky kinda week too! Stop falling down the stairs tho! 😳

Nothing going on in the garden right now. We got another 5 inches of snow on the ground. More nitrogen for the garden. DD did the snowblower for first time. Still working on rearranging indoor plants to make way for starter trays. The temps are improving a bit. It will be getting in to the low 30's today but likely not above freezing until tomorrow. Spring will be here soon enough but March is known for big snow storms so looking towards April. So how old is this little girl @Sueby? One of my BR's had a small comb until she was around 18 months old. I'll have to look back at the "baby" pictures to see the leg color.

She's like 22 weeks or so. While I was on vaca she really turned red in the comb & got some wattles. I see her feathers in the nest box so I assume she'll start laying soon. She's HUGE. My biggest chicken by far, way bigger than my 3 year old RSL & the australorp thats her age. All she cares about it food. :gig

It’s very hard to tell from photos. Supposedly Marans lay are dark brown almost chocolate egg. BRs lay Medium to light eggs. It should be pretty easy to tell once she starts laying.

I don't think it she's a Cuckoo Marans judging from my own Cuckoo Marans hen.

If the breeder has both a you mentioned, she could be a mix.
