What did you do in the garden today?

Was cleaning and tossing out stuff this morning. I opened a cabinet that I have my aunt’s china stored in ( so I never open it, cause who uses China anymore) and I found this jar of Turkey soup from 2016!!! 🤣🤣
It actually doesn't look too bad... Not saying I would eat 4+ year old soup, but it would be interesting to know if it lasted fine that long.

Picked up some watermelon and squash seeds. I also picked up onion sets to try in the new garden. They never did well in the old one so I haven’t tried onions in a few years. I would end up harvesting onions smaller than the sets I planted! Hopefully they do better in the new garden. If they don’t... well I’m only out 85¢.

The feed store had tomato and pepper plants already! Our last frost isn’t until the 2nd week of April!

I had to weed last year, because mulch was in short supply here. I need about 30 bags this year and I'm NOT missing it. Weeding was a PIA.
we got a trailer load and will probably get another one this year
there's a picture somewhere - I cant find it - of SO lifting up the tongue of the trailer with the bobcat until all the mulch slid off the back. :lau

yeah I wasn't going to do onions but it was a 1/2 lb set for 1$ at the feed store so why not.

I saw that someone said they didnt like blue lake green beans... that's what I was planning to plant - pole and bush... thoughts?

:frow that was me! I wasn't a huge fan of their texture or taste. I thought they were bland & even just barely cooked (I like em just about raw) they were kind of mushy. But they are a very popular variety, it's probably just me. :gig

The pole version didn’t produce well for me. The heat killed the blooms. The bush ones did better I’ve had better luck with Contender for bush and Kentucky wonder for pole. And I’m in Alabama so it’s a pretty similar area. This year I’m trying rattlesnake pole beans again since they do better in the heat here in the south. I planted them last year but didn’t get around to picking any so I can’t remark on the flavor.

hmmpf mushy is not my jam either! I used to have to snap the ends off before dinner as a kid until my mom realized I ate every 5th bean. 😂
well we will find out. this is my first year going all out and also planting things at the correct times. so hopefully I learn a thing or two for next year. honestly I found a website with cheap seeds and they had one type of bush, one type of pole, one type of zucchini, one type of (insert name here) so I just went with those since I dont have back knowledge yet.

:lau this sounds like me

That's how I am when I'm picking them, I eat half of them!

My dog is a goof who smiles a lot. 😍
