What did you do in the garden today?

I transplanted 40 tomato starts into 6" pots this evening. This weekend I'll likely need to transplant 32 pepper starts into pots too. I'm hoping the garlic I transplanted in the garden makes it through the bit of snow we for today. If it proves hardy by this weekend, I'll transplant the rest into the garden. I need the room indoors if I'm going to transplant the peppers into pots.

morning, got some more bags of compost yesterday but weather to rough to spread on veg beds ,using peat free so see how that goes .made about 50 paper pots for seeds last night while watching tele ,hope i,ve made enough but i doubt it.going to start leeks, carrots ,radishes, spring onions ,beans and peas .got onion sets ready to put in have to do that soon they,re starting to sprout ,so are the pots but the ground is so wet i don,t want to do that too soon and they end up rotting . roll on warmer drier weather !

Whatever you do don’t plant them near the foundation or septic system or pipes. Willows put out some impressive roots.

30 feet MINIMUM they'll find the tiniest crack in a pipe and GO FOR IT.

With the mess that weeping willow make, those suckers are going out in the field, lol. Luckily we have 24 acres. Turns out that DH and I really like the looks of the weeping willows, we both grew up with neighbors that had them, but have enough experience with them to keep them away from the house.

But. thanks for the advise. It never hurts to warn people of potential problems.

Today’s project it prepping the coop and the garden for the storms. I’ll move any big objects out of the coop and into one of the sheds and I’ll put the greenhouse in there too. I’m sure it will take off if we get any high winds. I’ll also give the chooks extra food and water incase we can’t get back for a few days. This is the severe weather risk map for tomorrow.

I adore weeping willows! I grew up next to a golf course that was lined with them, I have always loved them.

Morning all.

I took the fig tree out last week, I have leaves & figs already.

Very impressed with the seeds from High Mowing. 100% of the regular cukes have sprouted so far, that's pretty good. The hot cherry peppers are starting to pop up, no sign of the habaneros yet.

Weather is cold here, like 15, with 2 chances for snow this week but by next week we'll be in the 60s for good. I'll hold onto the onion sets till next week, hopefully they survive in a cup of water till then.

Wish I could work on the new compost bins, but no sense as it's frozen solid so I can't move whats already in there anyway.

ALL of the chickens have now taken to laying in the 1 tiny nest box in the littles coop. :smackThey have 3 big boxes in the big coop where they've always laid, but they like the crammed little one better now. One of the littles at the bottom of the pecking order can never get in the box so she's taken to laying on the coop floor UNDER the box. :barnie Chickens are weird.

I love the look of weeping willows too, swaying in the wind. I did NOT know about the roots, so thank you for the warning! I tried to plant one out in our field, but I think it was too dry. I might take some cuttings and plant them down by the creek or the river though. Definitely not anywhere near the house. :)
