What did you do in the garden today?

Rain most of today. Starting tomorrow, and through the weekend, it is supposed to be sunny and nice!

Was supposed to pick up chicks and turkey poults today, but that is put off until next week - not enough available to make the drive worthwhile! The chicks we have are now 4 weeks old! Hard to believe it has been that long already! Will begin to allow them into the run with the other chickens, where they'll get pecked and chased, but it needs to begin so they can form their own little group of the youngest chicks. They'll sleep in the brooder for awhile longer, as that helps them to not be overly harassed all at once! The plan is to decide who to sell to make room for the chicks. Because kid is in 4H, we buy new chicks every year, and cycle out already shown, or not needed ones...a benefit to whoever buys them, as we are often selling 1 - 1.25 year old chickens that are just entering their second season, so eggs-a-plenty for the new owners.

Took it down. I knew it wouldn’t hold up if the winds got up or we got hail. Didn’t want to risk it.
Good thinking! We have to batten down the hatches on occasion but not like that. Although we get some pretty serious gulley washers in summer with down drafts that take off roofs and topple trees.

I got some weeping willow branches from a friend and put 1 foot long pieces into water to root last week. They are already rooting and starting to put out leaves. I will need to plant into dirt soon, I better go out to the potting shed and find 20 containers to plant trees into.
Our weeping willow we planted last spring is doing so great - probably doubled in size, with new buds and leaves starting now! I think I'll follow your path and root some cuttings.

So far, I'm on schedule - started my first indoor seeds this week - cabbages, broccoli, cauliflower, and luffa in 4" pots, and lettuce and spinach in mini seed-starting pots. Still have to fix the wiring on my utility trailer (or hopefully convince Mr. Dog to do it) so I can pick up a load of compost for the raised beds that I still need to build within the next 6 weeks...oops, maybe I'm not all that on schedule, haha. Still need to plant the native bushes that are still heeled out in the garden.

It amazes me how quick Spring shows up here. Yesterday trees looked dormant, today the first ornamental cherries around town are showing their pink buds!

So there's a dead opossum in the yard...definitely dead (will not post photos...ick!). So now we have a couple questions: 1. Who killed it inside our fence? I'm hoping it was one of our dogs, and not a coyote or something. 😬 2. What do I do with it when the county says it's the city's problem, and the city won't answer the phone??

Ugh. Oh, and we have people coming over tonight...supposedly to hang out in the back yard. Which currently is home to Mr. Deady-McDead Opossum. 🤦‍♀️

Really don't want to spend my day digging a grave for a wild animal. Or repeatedly getting voicemails at the city government.

In more "garden-y" news, the seedlings are outside for a few hours. So far, got a decent sprouting rate. Accidentally broke off one of my squash seedlings though. 😥🤦‍♀️

Sleepily waving. 20 hour weather work day yesterday.
I was late out to feed the animals this morning. None of them will starve to death, but the alpacas will guilt you into thinking they are.

I looked over the garden fence on my way back in, UGH, the break through grass clumps in the mulch area are now bright green and about 8 inches tall. I'm going to have to dig them out before I put mulch down.

Heading out soon to check the seedling situation. I need to see who needs taken off the heat and out from the domes, and see if any lights need to go up a notch.

Winds howling to the mid 30s again today, looking for another 3 inches of rain Sun-Tuesday.

Egg deliveries start tomorrow!

Pick it up by it's tail or use a shovel and put it in a plastic trash bag or paper sack and throw it in the trash. If your pick up is too far away, take it to the trash cans at the local gas station. (the outside ones.)

Cold, wet and windy here. Frost again tonight and tomorrow night. I have to wait until Saturday to transplant the remaining garlic starts. The 6 I put out already are doing well though. The are green and still standing. I just don't want to transplant right before a frost and in this wind even though they appear to be sturdy and frost hardy. The experiment of starting garlic indoors and using grocery store bought hardneck garlic is working or so far.
