What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. Finally gave up waiting on Gurneys to follow up with my issue with the seed potatoes I bought from them. I called them and they are giving me a refund. Very disappointed with them. I'm going to try to get to my little discount store and see if they have any seed potatoes left. Now, if the weed whacker I ordered materializes soon I will be happy. I got the small butterfly bush trimmed back yesterday. My solar motion sensor lights needed some attention and I pulled up the old wire border fence around my cutting garden. While chasing one of the hens back into the run I fell. Good thing I still know how to fall to minimize injuries. I'm fine, although I suspect I may feel a bit achy in a few more hours. The temperatures are still warmer than normal now and heading into a three day stretch of 70F. However, the long range forecast shows a dip in temps coming so I'm still holding off on more planting outdoors. Still no signs of the asparagus yet and no signs of the neighbors rhubarb plant coming up either.

Same here, Sally PB!

I haven't lost my job, thankfully. Reduced some hours/salary at times due to less business, but those government stimulus payments came close to making up for it. My company has also been very supportive of our coworkers who work in the retail section, continuing their health insurance for those who have gone through temporary furloughs, and hiring them back when business picked up. I'm really thankful to work at my company, who treats all our people with care and decency - unlike so many other corporations.

I'm also thankful that my elderly Mom has been able to get both of her vaccinations, and the assisted facility she lives in has had minimal infections - the one or two deaths they've experienced are sad, though. But I'm confident my Mom is now safe, along with my aunt and uncle who live in the same facility. I hope to visit them later this year, after I've been vaccinated.

I'm extremely grateful that I live in a place on two acres, by the river, next to a public trail, lots of room to have chickens and a large garden but within walking distance of a small town. Lots of choices to walk around either on our own property or to chat with neighbors while still keeping socially distanced. Most people at the places I go, like the grocery store and the feed store, wear masks and do distancing too.

Now that I've said all this, I realize that I mind much less, that it might take me a while to get the vaccine, and that some younger, healthy people might get it before me. Who cares? I'm fine with continuing to avoid crowds and maintain social distance, masking at the grocery store and the feed store. Some of the younger people seem to be pretty anxious to get into social situations, to meet people, go to social places that might be crowded, I get it. They deserve to live their lives.

So go for it, young people! But hurry up and get vaccinated! I don't mind waiting in line. Peace to all of you, get vaccinated so you can meet each other and have fun, but please take care and wear your masks at the feed store, hardware store and grocery store, and other stores where you might come in contact with those of us who are willing to sacrifice for a little while longer.

Good luck! It is early yet, so hopefully you can get what you need!

Try going to Walgreens webpage and creating an user account then try to find an appointment in your state. That’s how me, and my partner got an appoimment and vaccinated, after looking for spots everywhere for a while!
Thanks, I'll try that for sure!

@Wee Farmer Sarah I'm glad you're ok! Falls scare me!

I'm also super glad that I'm fully vaccinated. Not a huge fan of our Gov, but he did a good job getting vaccines out to the people.

I ordered a few cases of canning jars, I'm running low on 8oz jelly jars & TS has them at a normal price. They do contact free curbside pick up, but I highly doubt I won't go in during chick days! :gig I asked at my garden store yesterday about canning supplies & they laughed at me saying they can't get a single thing related to canning & there is no hope in sight. :idunno I'm guessing because they are such a small little guy they don't have any buying power.

And here we have them all over. Grocery, farm store, big box.....:idunno:

The only place around here I’ve found canning supplies is target! They’ve had a good stock!

It's weird - I didn't think there was still a shortage on the jars, just the lids! Are you seeing lids @WthrLady? Target did have jars but won't ship & there isn't one near me. I bought 3 cases, I would have bought more but they only had 3. I may have to reconsider my Christmas jam this year. Or maybe return a jar, get a jar. :gig

My mom is the only one that sends jars back anymore.

Ours did that to an amazon box last week. It was very confusing.
I live next door to a house that has been abandoned for at least 15yrs. The mail man has to drive up into that houses drive to access the mailbox. My box is on the street on the other side of my house. I can’t tell you how often my packages get put on that doorstep and my mail in that box.
And NoneSuch Road is in Texas :lau
I like Noodle Dome Road- we were always curious about it when we passed the cut off on Interstate 20.
