What did you do in the garden today?

the heat was insane today, but it was a dry heat, and yes, that makes a difference.

I cleaned our workshop, again, and vowed that there will be no more shoving and no more piles or not putting things away. NO MORE.

I built a grow out pen for the chicks and had to use a butterfly net to catch them.

The 5 gallon buckets are now clean and dry.

The broody cages are washed and dry.

Alpacas hosed off again.

I'll give yesterday's transplants another day in the seed shed before I move them out to the greenhouse. Then the heat and food will boost their root and greenery growth.

THEN I can put all the seed and starting supplies on their old shelves and turn out the lights and put the heat mats away.

I also had a mason bee condo area in the orchard that fell apart. Now I have a post out there that is demanding some kind of wind driven art. LOL.

OK. I stink and am filthy and am heading to the shower before I put pizza in the oven.

My new plan is to build raised beds, to make it easier to weed and to control temps, and maybe get a bit longer growing season. So I built 5, but after leveling and situating one last weekend, it was taking way too long. I was sore from digging, and my back was severely protesting.
So today my awesome neighbor who has a side business tilling, came and tilled and leveled the whole garden.
I have tomorrow off work, because I lied to my employer that I was getting my first covid vaccine tomorrow, even though I actually got it yesterday. [No side effects, except for a slight headache (easily cured with 2 Tylenol) and a bit of fatigue (took a nap for two hours, then felt great, and full of energy today.)]

So my plan for tomorrow is to situate the other four raised beds I have built, fill them with the compost that's waiting in my trailer right beside the garden, and plant lettuce and spinach in the one bed that's finished.
My seedlings inside are almost ready to go into the greenhouse - hopefully all the beds will be done by the time they are ready to plant outside, at least that's the plan...

The trees from Gurney's we planted 3 or 4 weeks ago are still not budding up, while the native trees we got from our local conservation district at the same time are not only budding, but branching out. How much time should I give the Gurney's trees until I demand a refund? They still owe me two butternut trees, that they claim have shipped, but when I try to track them, it says "arrival date is unknown." Ticks me off, I won't be ordering from them again.

Nature Hills Nursery is definitely super expensive, but the few trees we bought from them are super healthy and growing like crazy.
Mine were pretty slow. I’d say the native plants of the same types were leafed out and blooming before the new ones showed signs of life. And one was much slower than the other.

I planted & replanted bush cucumbers three times thanks to my gander teleporting all over the yard 😑 trimmed cover crop in all the beds, pulled lots of pepper plants that were stunted from the freezing temps last week, and planted up more tomatoes.

Also started what I hope is my last tray before fall of watermelon, sunflowers, chives, and pumpkin. Tomorrow's an office day, but that's gonna get cut short when the rest of my grow bags arrive :wee

Are peppers likely to cross pollinate? I have California bells, banana, jalapeno, habanero plus one chiltepin and one Trinidad scorpion. They will all be planted together in a 8x4 raised bed expert possibly the last two which might get planted in pots.
I'm asking because it would be nice to keep seeds if possible.

Finally finished filling in the bed and topped iff the barrels and also filled in a grow bag. I planted two rows of peas in the bad and the pitatoes and onions un the barrels and just potatoes in the bag. I put three potatoes in the bag and a barrell and for potatows in the other barrel. Is that too much?
PS
Im on my phone so i cant type tok well on these teensy buttons.
Here are pux of thd barrels. The stick

Yes, I just watched a few videos on it.

According to Picture This, it's Creeping Charlie also called Ground Ivy.

Up potted the last of the tomatoes (about 75 or so total), transplanted the bok choy into the raised bed, and watched the ladies when I finally let them out of the run. Every one of them actually came out and I love watching them do chicken stuff. What with all the rain we'd had the last couple of days (1.5 inches) there were plenty of slugs and snails, and they'd been cooped up for 3 days so they were ready to clean house.

It rained today! Only about a tenth of an inch though and it's probably the last storm of the season. Did not get anything done in the garden besides picking greens for the quail.

Sunday I picked a purple cabbage and topped off that now empty raised bed with compost. I have that bed labeled "cucumber/melon" for rotational purposes but garden math struck and I now have three melons and a cucumber plant that need to go somewhere, so I'll probably put two there and two in the overflow garden.
