What did you do in the garden today?

The rhubarb is mostly there after its ordeal last year, and both of the apple trees are blooming. We should not get more frost, so it should be alright. I don’t think I mentioned that the potatoes are growing, and the sunflowers, tomatoes, and even the jalapeños are doing well in the house. The strawberries... umm. I have a general idea of where the plants should be. :D Considering I planted the first few upside down, I may never have strawberries.

The plan is to test out the new weed whacker/ mini mower this morning then do the big yard with the riding mower this afternoon.
Do let us know how that goes, I'm very curious.
I'm planting the okra in the raised bed with the bell peppers, well, as soon as they are ready to go outside.
I'm going to try the same thing, well, both actually, pots and raised beds. They're all still in the greenhouse and I'm reluctant to bring them out too soon.

I was out weeding one of the raided beds this morning and a tiny movement caught my eye. The mantis egg case had hatched and there was a teeny tiny 1/4" mantis right under my fingers. So cute! Saw to the rabbits and chickens earlier, had lunch and now it's time to go back out and let the ladies out. I want to get the mason bee house up and at least get an extra cover roof on it. Depends on how much scrap wood I have laying around. At a minimum I need to up pot the okra and peppers. Net trip into town I have to pick up some bagged manure and 18% rabbit pellets.

Did some more bed prepping with compost for planting in June. Then took some photos of my lilacs and ceanothus blooming. After that, I came inside and made a short vid with some old pictures I found of the veggie garden when we first started growing years ago and contrasted them to pictures I took of the garden today.

Very nice day here. Hope we do get rain in the next day or two; we really need it. It's been a dry spring.

I replanted a bunch of tomato seeds in the green house. The one kind of tomato that I didn't have to replant any... my Amish Paste seeds from my plant last year! Maybe it's written into their DNA that this is a place to grow. Now, if they could just tell the other 8 varieties...

More war on ivy today and hacked away at some overgrown shrubs/baby offshoots I don't want. Started pruning low and crossing branches on the tree behind the shrub...then realized that's technically across the property line. Oops! Wishing I'd taken a "before" photo so I could document the progress, but oh well.

I DID get permission to kill ivy across the property line though, so excited about that. Otherwise, I'd have no hope of eventually eradicating it.

And now for some photos of flowers:

The plan today:
step 1: Survive the day - I feel like crud still but better than yesterday morning.
step 2: make it through this work shop I have to lead form 11am-1pm and the the meeting I have 1pm-2pm. I'm very hoarse and my throat is killing me, so this is really a challenge today.
step 3: ditch work as early as possible and get to the hardware store to buy grass seed and exchange the broken weeding tool.
step 4: spread grass seed in certain areas and weed and feed over the established grass.
step 5: get into the garden and plant the strawberries and onions that are expected to arrive today from Gurneys. (going to be 200 onions now since I couldn't cancel them but already bought sets at the store)
step 6: Transplant the largest pepper starts (now plants that are forming buds I keep removing) into the garden.
step 7: water the garden and grass seed
step 8: get over feeling like crap

Should be a good day!
Everything is done except the trip to Menards and the grass seeding. I'm under the weather. Yesterday I developed a sore through and nausea. Today the throat is still sore, the nausea comes and goes, my sinuses are all stuffed up and my nose is runny, I have a cough and various parts of my body are hurting. I scheduled a Covid test for tomorrow and am quarantining myself in the mean time, hence me not getting to Menards. Hoping it's not Covid, particularly because of the risk it would pose to DW and the kids. However, if it's not then I'll need a doctor appointment anyway to figure out what is going on.
