What did you do in the garden today?

Oh, thank you, you both give me some hope!

I ordered two plum trees, four persimmons, and a redbud (and I'm still waiting for two butternuts) all of which arrived at different times, so I can't remember when I planted them exactly, but it was early/middle March. I planted all of them the day I got them or the following day, since I'd been expecting them and the areas were already prepped.

The weather then was high 40s - low 50s and we never got below freezing at night, so I think they should have been OK, but a few weeks later we got a hot spell where it was in the high 70s during the day. The native plums we planted around the same time loved it and budded up, but these still look dormant if not dead (one of the plums is getting a bit of green on a couple buds, but none of the others.). I guess I should give them some more time and see what happens. Maybe prune them if they still haven't done anything in a couple weeks...

I was really proud of myself at the grocery store the other day - the garden section had a bunch of tomato and pepper starts sitting out right as you walk in, and they looked pretty healthy, too. I stared at them for a long time, fighting with myself, and finally, I did not buy any!!!!
I think you are good as long as they were alive when you got them. Mine were planted in February and survived temps of 16F to 90F before the last one sprouted!

It got hot enough yesterday that I had to move the chick brooder outdoors into the shade. I got the limas planted, the first tomato trellis finished and weeded and mulched the grapevines. I am so sore this morning, last night my step counter read 16,000. I’m hoping to get the squash, okra, pintos, and some tomatoes planted today. I also still need to finish the bean trellis lol.

Good morning gardeners. Sorry you are feeling ill @BReeder! I hope it isn't Covid. Mother Nature has been quite kind these past few days. We got nearly 1/2 inch of fairly gentle rain overnight and more forecasted for later this afternoon. I was able to mow and trim the front yard yesterday. The new mini mower works well, however with the mower housing attached you can't get as close as possible to trim the edges so you need to remove it from the housing to get closer to the edging. But the motor is fine and the whole trimmer is well balanced so the weight of it is more evenly distributed. Bottom line: it didn't kill my back @NewBoots. I can't wait to try it out on my slope. Yesterday I got the cukes and the summer squash planted. I also planted a few of the cabbage and Dinosaur kale starts. I planted the daisies this morning and was very happy when I dug down to plant them that the soil was wet 8 inches deep and more. I have a little space in the little round bed with the cucumbers so I will be throwing some bush bean seeds in there to hang out with the cukes. The plan for today is to set the T-posts for the chicken yard fencing. I've been using plastic snow fencing on temp posts and it's looking a little trashy and sad. I have fence wire on hand from the old house so this should be a quick job. I was also thinking it would help deter the bobcats and coyotes from getting too close to the chicken coops, or at least slow them down. :fl

Picked up some geraniums:

In this pot are two planted geraniums (look at that lavender one!) along with Alpine strawberries. The other plants here are going to be planted elsewhere - they are just waiting in small pots.

PEPPERS! UGH - they take forever. I've been keeping them warm as much as possible No, they have not gotten overheated, as I place them lower in the portable greenhouse if sunny. But still 4 have not yet sprouted!

Many starts of peppers and tomatoes and gourds. Some strawberries too. I haven't started anything else as the melons and squash prefer to be direct seeded or started only 1-2 weeks before planting.

Our 10-week old chicks. 6 BR, 6 EE (but one is a male and he will have to leave), and 3 SS (the one standing on far left is male, and we will keep him).

So, normally, we go out when it is low light and take them off the railing to put them inside the coop. It works pretty well. However, last night one of the EE was NOT going in. I tried many tactics, I put up barriers (she'd jump up and over), I put up portable fencing...nope, not having it, I waiting a while so she would go back to roost on railing and it was darker. But I hadn't even gone in the gate to get her, when she jumped down and ran off. FINE! she spent the night outside the coop, alone. Maybe tonight she'll choose to go inside.

::Waiting to hear from @BReeder! ::
I'm here. Two hours until my test. It'sa rapid test, so I'm hoping results come back today. I'll find out more when I go to Walgreens for the test I guess. Sinuses did open up some today. My sister dropped off some meds she swears by that are to ward off flu symptoms. Seemed to help. Throat still a bit sore as are some muscles, but I don't have the lazy gene that let's people stay in bed all day. I need to move, even if it is a bit painful to do so. I was always told it's staying still that will kill you. I did cough up some more green nastiness. Taking a warm bath, clocking into work (from home), checking on my plants and ducklings, and then hauling my nasal cavities to Walgreens for a swabbing.

I had two negative rapid tests before they ordered a PCR test (since I had classic covid symptoms). That test was positive. So if you get a negative test, I'd still stay away from people until you're feeling better just in case it wasn't accueate.

I had 2 friends with false positives from the rapid. & they say that's very rare - I'm not so sure bout that!

So I got some more purple bush bean seeds planted, more dill & more parsley. The peppers in the tunnel still look pretty good, as does everything else I put outside yesterday.
