What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning every one. I was poofed when I was done with inventory last night at 430, but then then it dawned on me that Friday (today) the lawn was due to be mowed, but I won't be here (open shop day), and it's going to rain Sat Sun Monday morning, and then Wed-Thurs. By next Friday, I'd have to have a team of goats to get through it. So at 430 off I went on the riding mower. I finished just as the sun set.

Now the birds are chirping. The swallows are fighting over the loose chicken feathers in the yard. The dog is napping on the sofa. I'm getting ready to load and make a list of what I'm taking with me for sale. I managed all the plants, plus 2 dozen little girl's dresses, half a dozen gardening aprons, 5 loaves of braided bread and 2 dozen giant iced cookies.

Phew. I need to water the beans while I'm out there, but otherwise we're still a couple of weeks away from putting tomatoes in the ground.
Wow, you are certainly a busy bee- makes me feel guilty for laying around like a hound dog some days( but I enjoy it- a lazy dog is my spirit animal.

Spending Mother's day weekend at the in-laws in Indiana... Been mushroom hunting this morning... Found a decent sized mess.

Went it to lunch two town over. It's a30 mine ride for a Mexican place that served up burrito bowls. On the way home I to a quick detour and stopped at a local farm stand that has a greenhouse/nursery to pick up a citronella plant. I planted it in our large planter just outside the front door. I need to get some flowers to go around it I think.
Now I have ribs on the smoker and am relaxing in my chair in the living room with some ice tea and the pup (who always jumps up to take a nap on my lap).

I’m so bad! I went to get my DIL a geranium for Mother’s Day and found the bright orange ones. I needed that color so...brought one home.
The neighbor called and invited the kids over to play in the pool so they’re gone and it’s nice and quiet at home. So wonderful!

@igorsMistress, your garden looks so good! and those ducks are so sweet! I looked longingly at the baby ducks at the feed store today.

So, "what are you doing at the feed store?" you might ask. A valid question I must say... Okay so I was looking at our flock and Bitey just does not want to break brooding, the giant EE won't lay, the SS are beautiful to look at but not good layers, and now Dotty is threatening to go broody as well. So we went to the feed store and got 2 barred rocks, 2 delawares, 2 black australorps, and 2 tiny blue sapphire that DP wanted to try putting under Bitey. I told her that Bitey probably isn't a proper broody and will likely kill them in the morning and I realized I'd already decided to get up at o'dark thirty and try to be there when she wakes up. I'm pretty sure that one way or another (assuming I get them out alive) they'll be put in with the other new littles. Right now they're all sleeping under the mama hen plate and very content sounding. We got them for 2 bucks a piece (all but the tinys are about 2 weeks old) I'll get pictures later. Funny how chicken math works, eh? :idunno :gig

I worked on the edge of the garden grass fight. I covered the strawberries with both a sheet and a tarp last night. That did the trick, so I'll be doing that another 3-4 nights until Mother Nature gets over herself and stops frosting us. I think last night was the worst of the cold nights they've forecast. I hope so, anyway.

So much to do before we go to NC. After tomorrow, we're supposed to have a dry spell, so sunny or not, out I go to do whatever I can get done.

I did get some asparagus last night. I picked whatever was tall enough to bend over and snap, thinking it would be better to get a 4" piece than to have it freeze.

:gig That chicken math is crazy stuff! I hope Bitey will love the tiny babies though. I had a hen that was broody. I hatched some chicks while she sat on fake eggs, then put the chicks under her and she was fine. I went out later that day to find her sitting on fresh eggs in the nest box and ignoring the chicks so I took the eggs. She promptly stomped out of the coop looking disgusted and never looked back. Another hen took over mama duties and did great but I found that interesting. I think some girls like the IDEA of chicks but not the reality of it lol.
FWIW those math issues extend to ducks as well. I started with 3, then I had 6, now I have 7.

Back from the city. My 6.5 year old dishwasher just up and died. It's always been a PIA lemon, but NOW it chooses to die. Waiting list time for an out of USA one is over a month. In stock is limited to USA models, which is fine, but I happen to know a lot of them don't last. But it is what it is and the wait time is STILL three weeks to get it here.

Sales were better today, but all cookies and girls dresses. I did well enough this weekend at the shop, but still not worth my time.

I had a LONG think on it last night and I am going to eliminate my etsy shop May 31st. Etsy is pulling some things I think are bordering on shady, and I'll leave it at that. I hope to get a website/store online eventually for my woven items. We shall see.

No gardening today except watering the beans. Welcome rain is coming, storms are too, although they are not welcome at all. The wind has been ridiculous.
