What did you do in the garden today?

Nope, but it could be done. A classic wood bed uses a post in the corners. You could cut it to be a curve. If you go with Metal walls, cut the curve and the metal follows the curve. It would take a little more time, but he’s interested, so that’s a bonus!

Oh yes, he's very interested in the gardening and can't wait to get started, lol. We have a large enough area we may be able to cut our food bill fairly heavily. Time will tell.

Meanwhile, I just want to get things ready so all I have to do is plant as we enter the different fall planting windows. Throw in having a baby in there somewhere and I've got incentive to prep sooner rather than later.

He also wants to look into curved edges on the beds for a more organic feel. Has anybody seen anything like that? I haven't.

Yeah the only curved beds I've seen were corrugated metal but they looked great and super sturdy.

And then I find this... might be just the thing. He's thrilled lol!

I like the corrugated metal ones personally, but if DH is doing the labor willingly I'll tell him to go for it. Throw in a few herb spirals and it'll be lovely. I think landlady will be happy too, but considering she's using an old bathtub as a raised bed, I don't think there's too much she would object to. In fact, she might ask for help building some for her yard. She's like me, can't go to the store without buying a plant or three. I swear it's as bad as chicken math.

I got 27 tomatoes planted in my heavy soil garden. Those, 6 peppers, and 5 melons took me 6 hours.

In my sandy soil garden, I planted 13 tomatoes in 45 minutes. I could dig the holes with my hands.

Night before last, we did indeed have frost. It took a few asparagus spears, wilted some potato leaves that are just coming up, and curled a few leaves of other things. But the strawberries are ok! And a few are turning pink now.

I am tired now. I think I'll sleep well tonight.

S-L-U-G-S- they eat everything-- I have noticed we dont have as many frogs this year, it may be early, I have only seen 1. I am not hearing them either. I have seen way more slugs than usual. I had to pull them off the Black Cohosh, the Bergamont, lettuce, the Echinacea,,, and more. I have been using diatomaceous, it does help, but HOLY COW! I need more frogs.

S-L-U-G-S- they eat everything-- I have noticed we dont have as many frogs this year, it may be early, I have only seen 1. I am not hearing them either. I have seen way more slugs than usual. I had to pull them off the Black Cohosh, the Bergamont, lettuce, the Echinacea,,, and more. I have been using diatomaceous, it does help, but HOLY COW! I need more frogs.

While the coffee was brewing - I went out to open the coop at 4:40,
I stopped by the squash tent, none of the mouse traps had sprung- BUT!
I pulled, it was either slugs #13 or #15 , it was hard to ell without my glasses - (off the poster in above post) anyways, I pulled
10 of the 13's/15's and a few #4's off the squash-
then went and checked my Echinacea, AND even though I had DE on the plant there still was a #4 on it,

I have to come up with a better plan

@Elyrian1, ummm... didn't anyone warn you about Garden Math?!? My story is something like this:

Put in a garden. Buy some land that is next to ours. Enlarge garden to twice its size.

Friend causally mentions that a really good place for a garden is "up on the hill." Pooh-pooh this idea as it is UUUUPPP on the hill.

Rethink the uphill idea; after all, it doesn't frost up there as late/early, and tomatoes and melons need the longer season.

Put in a garden up on the hill. It's not that bad to haul stuff up there. Enlarge garden to put in more tomatoes and melons. And peppers. They need the heat too. Enlarge uphill garden again. Hubby builds a green house up there where there's lots of sun and good southern exposures. Start seeds up there and have spinach and lettuce in the winter.

So, really, I just have two gardens. That's perfectly normal. A lot of people have just two gardens.

The Tom is still at it. DH thinks we need to take down my peacock decoration. He is literally there for hours every day. He talks to her, he dances for her - he was even yelling at her this am. At some point I think he may decide it's just time to TAKE her.
