What did you do in the garden today?

Here come the 90s! High of 89 today and 90+the next two days. Then we hover just below 90 for a week. Hot! Hot! Hot!
Just about the same here, mid 80s today, then a week of the 90s. Not a fan of the heat, but I dislike it less than I dislike snow. Time to blast the air conditioning!

Also, have to remember to wear my wide brim hat. Don't want sunburned ears or scalp or back of my neck.

Good morning gardeners. Today is the last seasonable day before the heatwave. Keeping the week old chicks cool will be challenging. I'm brooding them on the closed in porch and it can get quite hot in there in the afternoon. I got nearly everything finished on my grilling pad yesterday. After I cleaned and swept I found two more pavers to add on to the end. I need to build a "curtain" around it to keep the chickens out of that area when they are on bug patrol. The potatoes are growing really well and it looks like they want more dirt again. Crazy! Knock on wood, but the first planting of chard along with the romaine lettuce is doing well and I may likely pick some of the lettuce tomorrow. I'll try putting up a shade cloth to try to keep it from bolting. I've decided that if the 90 degree temps don't jumpstart the lima beans, I will be ripping that bed up and planting something else. Now that I'm close to finishing the patio area, I need to get busy on the new grow out pen. I am determined this will be my last building project, period. Fingers crossed, I just may get some peaches this year. I'm still having a problem with the curly leaf fungus, but I've sprayed twice and it seems to be helping. Thunderstorms are expected later today so when that's done I will spray the peach tree again. Have a great day all!

High of 83 today and low 80s next week. I'll take it as 90s and triple digit temps are surely in my near future! @Wee Farmer Sarah, I love your woods surrounding the yard! We let our pasture go totally wild. Sound and visual break from the neighbors on that side and there is an old creek that has spread out creating a wetland area. It is good for wildlife and the water table. My daughter wishes it was suitable for horses LOL, but it would not be good for their hooves to keep them on wet ground.

I've been stocking up on ice blocks for the birds. I HATE the heat, ugh.

I have to fill waterers & feeders today, throw some shavings in the coop & tell the girls I'll see em when the temps drop. :gig

I need to clean up after DHs project in my garden yesterday, it's a mess. Nothing some wood chips won't hid though!

If the next few days don't entice the peppers to start doing something I will pull them out & go buy some more starts. Maybe I'll get some san marz & do some canning this fall instead of dealing with the persnickety peppers.

Everything in the straw bale is just about dead - I think the bale was too hot from being in the chicken run over the winter. I thought it would be fine but both the squash & the cuke are barely alive & that's the only reason I can come up with. Oh well, experiment failed, into the compost it goes.

My half cow & whole chickens from a farm down the road should be ready for pick up today! I can't wait to try the chicken, I've never had anything but store bought. :drool

Stay cool everyone!

Cant remember who has the runoff in their yard?

We get RUNOFF through the entire length of our yard. Between our yard and neighbor. Storm drain under the road.

Today we have ducks enjoying the flowing water. Its the first time I've seen ducks there.

There is a big drain just out of the picture - owned by the farmer. However, farmer plowed over the ENTIRE waterway through the field to plant his stuff. So, water doesn't flow as well as it should. generally not a good idea: Bye Bye topsoil.
Too funny on the ducks, love the pic! The very back corner of our property is wetlands & totally wooded & we crack up every time we see a duck back there. So out of place!

Ok....today is a day full of surprises. My oldest daughter just called me and said they found a stray domesticated rabbit at the co-op where she boards her horse. Looks like someone dumped it. Poor thing is starving and looking for attention. No one was willing to take it so I am going to drive over there and pick it up.

I had a rabbit once many years ago. Not sure what I"m going to DO with this poor fella...but I won't leave it out there to die.
Just think of all the fertilizer...

Weather here is mild but humid. Expecting rain the rest of the week. I really need to get to work on that ark.

Watered and weeded this morning. It’s rained all around us this week but we still haven’t gotten a whole 1/4 inch here. The rain chances are up again next week so I’m praying we will get some decent rainfall. Last time we had a really bad drought 6 years ago it was about the same weather problem. That year we lost the whole garden including most of the blackberries. Lots of trees were lost too. It’s cooler here this week about the same temps as @oldhen2345
