What did you do in the garden today?

Good afternoon everyone. Yesterday I cleaned out the big freezer and found some seeds.
Sweet peas, corn, some mixed flowers for year round color around a lamp post or mailbox, micro clover for a cover crop and some more carrots. Also more xeriscape grass seed. I forgot I had all that! I can’t wait to get a few things done this weekend. I have been doing things inside most of the week because of restrictions but should be all clear now. I did some research on how to propagate lilacs so that will be a project soon as well. Have a great afternoon all!

I remember way back, growing up in Illinois, we had some pretty big lilac trees / bushes around the house. Biggest problem with them was the bees You should hopefully not have many problems getting them to go for you, good luck!

I got a new great grandson last night (#2)! I have pledged to fix a small hole and discoloration in the ceiling from were there was a leak before the new roof was installed. So today that is priority on my task list. I check the garden most every day even if I don't work in it. Usually, that means I do some work in it every day upon looking at the needs, either I intended to or not! Probably will pick some turnips, collards and mustard for dinner tonight. I am about to find the sheet rock mud and the paint in the mess that is my garage right now! I hope. My young pullets all laid an egg yesterday for the first time , 18 eggs! I have been averaging a dozen per day for over a week now. The size is increasing ,for some now are large, instead of medium. I too am increasing in size as I make rich pies and cakes, piled with merengue to use more eggs! All in all, I am greatly blessed this day!

Good morning gardeners. Yes, I wholeheartedly agree @WthrLady, a break between gardening seasons is really needed and appreciated. I've been busy getting my gardens cleaned up and covered in compost. The compost from my oldest cold compost pile wasn't completely done but by the time it over winters in the garden beds it should be fine. The plan is to clean up the leaves from the backyard and clean the gutters out this coming week. We had a big rain storm blow through here yesterday. It knocked power out in a lot of towns, but fortunately I was spared. DD came over to work from here when her power went out. A transformer near her place blew up. I'm guessing @Sueby lost power as well. The storm was a bit worse south of me. She's also in for another round this afternoon. I started testing my soil samples and the acidity level is in a good range for now. Nitrogen is pretty much all gone. I think I'll test the oak leaves vs the maple leaves and cover the beds with specific leaves and see if there's any difference in the Spring. Also, the big garden plot in the backyard gets a lot of pine needles, so there's another comparison to be made. It looks like the weather is starting to stabilize into the more normal range for this time of year. I've heard that we should be getting a good amount of snow this winter so that should boost the nitrogen level a bit. We gardeners in the colder climates are looking at all the warm winter folks to keep us in photos of crops and green things during the next 5 to 6 months, Have a great day everyone.

No cacti here at the moment. I can walk around my neighborhood and pick prickly pears when they are in season. My neighbor has one that I want though. They don’t water it at all except in the hottest summers when rain is scarce and it’s beautiful every winter. Lots of stickers to keep people from coming over the wall!

Good morning gardeners. We have a week of mid 80s temps then dropping into the 70s. There’s weeds in the carrot patch I need to pull and the lemon tree is getting some water now. It’s blooming again even though there are lemons still turning on it, crazy little thing! I need to get some soil so I can transplant the starts tomorrow too so running errands with hubs this morning. I’m also soaking a shrub I need to dig out tomorrow or later today so I can move the lemon grass. That stuff exploded, and the clump is huge now. Will be making some Thai curry paste with some of it tomorrow or Monday. The roasting garlic, shallots and ginger make the kitchen smell heavenly! Anyway, time to get busy, have a great day all!
