What did you do in the garden today?

Nothing going on in the garden today. The high today is only 38. There was about a 1/4 inch of ice on the rain barrel this morning. I’m trying to convince myself to go outside and burn all the excess paper and cardboard we have on hand.
I’m on day 1 of the 5 day worming regiment for my big coop. The other day I saw round worms in a stool so it’s (past) time to worm them. They been enjoying some fresh pumpkin and pumpkin seeds for about a week now. I don’t know if that’s why I’m seeing the worms or not but I’m using safeguard to be sure I’ve taken care of the problem.

chilly here. I am trying to chop as much as possible of scrap wood for the stove and clear mass I made by dismantling coops. we had some rain so finally no watering. my little salad garden has become independent, lol. I will chop a few lettuce leaves to make a sandwich. I never cut lettuce, just chop the outside leaves. that way they last longer.

I hope to continue to dismantle the rest of the last coop. I used to keep more breeds and needed to separate them. I am going to keep silkies, araucanas (+ a few layers with them) and pekins (bantam cochins). a pair of bronze turkeys will be with araucanas/layers.

Yesterday I got the coop cleaned, replenished with new pine chips, the chickens' waterers scrubbed out and refilled, then started removing stakes and trellises from the garden, until the slight drizzle turned into a downpour. Finally gave up on my garden winterizing plans after it became obvious the downpour wasn't going to turn back into a drizzle - by that time I was soaked. Time to change into warm PJs in the laundry room, throw everything I was wearing into the washer, and park ourselves on the couch in front of Netflix with our warm cat and dog.

Today was finally dry all day, yay! But 32 degrees cold! I got all the stakes, trellis, fencing cleaned off and put away, dead plants into the compost, and three more beds weeded, composted and mulched, plus non-bed areas ready to compost and mulch. The last two pumpkins left in the garden I gave to the chickens to enjoy pecking at and eating seeds.

Miss Kitty Pumpkin is mostly helpful, in that she's a great hunter. We no longer see any evidence of live rodents around the coop, she brings us plenty of dead ones though. She isn't allowed in the coop or run, since whenever we're in there she jumps on the covered roof and follows us around from above, showing maybe a bit too much interest in what the chickens are doing. She's amazingly cuddly and sweet for a formerly-feral cat - the only thing I can fault her for is demanding scritches, insisting on getting between my face and whatever I'm trying to do, like now if I don't hide my keyboard she's all 68bhUYGKJNk%*TYM0459

Good frosty morning everyone. It got down to 12F this morning. I had brought one of the chicken's waterers in last night so this morning they got warm water from the house and warm mash to jump start the day. I was out there again a half ago making sure they still had liquid water, and gave them a few scraps of apples. Good news is I found my excel workbook I keep my garden plans in. This little laptop I bought 4 years ago is just not working very well so I can see an upgrade coming in the near future. However, I can honestly say I started working on my garden plan for next Spring. The surprise this morning came while I was almost halfway through blow drying my hair. My 15 year old blow dryer died. I know I got my monies worth from that little gadget. Thank goodness the pellet stove was blasting and I used that to finish drying my hair. So I'll be stopping a t Walmart tomorrow after my trip to the feed store. My little Christmas party went well last night. The holiday light show was fun and the small plates buffet was quite tasty. I made a big batch of Swedish meatballs. And I have a lot of leftovers to enjoy for a while. And I'll be joining @pennyJo1960 in baking more cookies. Have a great day everyone.

Tomorrow is solstice and I don't know if I'll even bother with the tree. Maybe just the candle in the window and presents shoved in the corner. I'm not feeling it.
We start gaining back our daylight as of Thursday, it will be welcome.
I SHOULD be done with the loom restoration today. We'll see.
The men are off to work today, but home the rest of the week. So maybe I'll get the gifts wrapped before the loom.
I FINALLY found a daily planner that starts on Sunday, so I'll be able to better plan habits and the garden/greenhouse/chores/real world.
