What did you do in the garden today?

Morning, everyone!

Not much gardening to do right now in Wisconsin for me! Tonight's forcast is a low of -14 or -15 degrees farenheit! Brr!

I did start a tray of seeds the other day though- Shasta Daisies, lavender, thyme, petunias, and rosemary.

I also have an order from Baker Creek coming some time. Will still probably order from MIgardener and Jung's as well.

I placed an order with Jung's for the first time this year. Most of the order is perennial bareroots and potted plants. I'm not expected them to arrive until after the weather warms up. I did order a few seeds though.

When I wrote down all of my seeds, I realized I was missing some I needed. So, I ordered a few more seeds from Baker Creek.
Jalapeno, Wilson's Sweet Watermelon, Lavendar, Basil, Short Stuff Sunflowers. Also got Cushaw Squash, I don't know if I'll be able to plant it where I was thinking or not, but I'd like to have it on hand. :D
I could have hooked you up with Cushaw! LOL. Surprised by vines didn't make it into Iowas last year.

It's 11F but feels like -4F right now. The garden is sleeping and I feel like sleeping too
It's not quite that cold here, but almost. I did take a nap, thinking that if it were spring/summer/fall, I would be out doing something in the garden.

I did get all my seed orders in, though. I'm trying three tomatoes I've never grown before: Mortgage Lifter, Italian Heirloom, and Hungarian Heart. I'll add those to my Ace 55 and Amish Paste seeds I've saved from last year.

I'm not having a good day.... On top of being sick again (yes, it's Covid. Again.), I just realized that the refrigerator inside my garage is freezing eggs again. These are eggs I typically sell. I just had someone come buy 6 dozen eggs (my daughter who is NOT sick helped them and, yes, she wore a mask) and 3 dozen were frozen solid. I had 9 dozen and 7 18-count out there last night. I don't know how many of the others are frozen too.... Ugh! I don't have the fortitude to deal with this right now.... 😭

I've been on the search for a small refrigerator to put in my sunroom. It's far better insulated than the garage but so far I've been unable to find anything that isn't $500 or more.

Hate when that happens..
Hey Gardeners too cold to plant here.. Oddly enough my walking onions are happy and growing in 33 temps...
We have two refrigerators in the house and one freezer small stand up.. I cannot fall in it...
Have a small frig in the garage, I use to use but it also is unreliable at times...

So sorry you're sick again. Somehow I keep thinking a simple refrigerator to put in the garage for eggs should only run $200 or so but I'm obviously dreaming. Don't they make a plain and simple fridge anymore?

It's been freezing at night here but it warms up to the low 60's during the day, with no rain till Sunday. I've been working on the beds, getting them ready for the early greens.

Yeah, that's the price range I'm looking for too... But so far, no dice. There's a scratch and dent place down the road. My best bet is to keep checking there... Or Craigslist. For now, I moved whatever is left into a giant insulated Styrofoam cooler. I'm keeping it in the garage but I figured on the nights it gets really cold, I can throw a Hot Hands packet in the cooler. Surely that will help keep them from freezing... It's worth a try.
